Made for Round 1 of "The Quickening". The plot (yes, it actually has one) is as follows:
Spoiler :
The story follows an unconventional timeline - it basically starts off in the present and then transitions (very poorly) into the past events that led to the main character's current state of mind. In order to simplify things, let's call the main character Bob (the unnamed protagonist from The Tatami Galaxy). Bob is a simple man who enjoys simple things. He's shy, timid, and reclusive but also dreams of having a more exciting life. Bob spends most of his time clocks ticking watching romantic dramas, his favorite being EF- A Tale of "Who the Hell Knows?". He dreams of one day falling in love and wants a relationship like the ones in his favorite soaps. One day, he gets tired of simply watching and waiting and, after long hours of contemplation, decides to act i.e. leaves his "box" of a home. He manages to craft a facade, fake confidence if you will, and uses the lessons learned from watching T.V. to find a lovely lady. He's immediately smitten by some random chick falls head first and sparks begin to fly flames even. He soon realizes that there's a lot more to relationships than what's depicted on television, the main thing being intimacy i.e. sex. The lonely introvert is unable to cope with this sudden realization and runs away from it all literally. He doesn't know how to deal with the situation at this point...he's happy that he doesn't have to leave his comfort zone but at the same time he's torn at the thought of being alone. The two conflicting ideologies clash and eat away at his mental stability the "box" that he was finally able to leave is once again closing in as he finds himself falling back to the one thing that he knows will make him happy...over-hyped dramas. Having had a taste of something new, something better, he finds little comfort in the shows that were once close to his heart and begins to contemplate some more. In his delusional state of mind he "somehow" drugs?? gets a glimpse of future events, of future complications, of future troubles. The clip at 2:15 is/was supposed to represent that hypothetical window into the future, i.e. the clip of the screen opening, but due to time constraints I was unable to adequately portray this very important detail. Anywho, he's lost in an infinite loop of quiet contemplation and bewilderment.
Will Bob be able to overcome his troubles? Will he give love a second chance? Beats me. I'm just the story teller, if you really want to know....ask Bob.
This may seem like a load of bull to some of you (if you bothered to read any of it), but in all honesty it's what I thought of when I first started editing. There are no randomly placed clips anywhere, I thought long and hard about scene selection. Yes, I know we only had one week and yes this was a pretty rushed project. It's a little sloppy because of it but I feel that it adequately portrays the ideas that I had floating through my mind. In fact, I spent most of my time thinking. I used the first 2 days to come up with a basic idea, that's when I decided to use The Tatami Galaxy and EF- A Tale of Memories. I've never seen either of the two shows...I didn't even "have" them. I had to use the next day and a half to download and prep footage. I used the rest of day 4 to skim through both shows - looking for the right clips. Day 5 was a chill day, I slept in and played some Halo. I didn't actually start editing until day 6. The only reason I managed to finish on time is cause I already had the whole thing planned out in my head
Oh and about the title: It's supposed to mean "In the pursuit of love". Cheesy I know . The "In" is enclosed just like our friend Bob is .
Note: Apparently the plot wasn't as straightforward as I thought it would be, in fact I'm not sure if anyone understood what I was trying to do lol. My bad
Also: Subtle pan/cropping is awesomeAlmost every single clip had some form of pan/cropping :3

I already told you what I think about it mostly. After reading your desc, I understand your video a bit more, but it wasn't as vague as you think it is . Nice job tho, and good luck on the tourneys heh.

Thanks! Your feedback is always welcome . I'm glad it wasn't too vague, though that probably varies depending on the person watching it :3.
I'll do my best, good luck in ProjectOrg Editor .
So I took the time to re read your concept, and watch the video again. I kind of got what you were going for a lot more now. Dig the concept you had, and impressed how you manged to edit in a short amount of times. Nice job on that bro.
Question though, if the world of Ef, was all in a tv world, I would have maybe add a tv film touch to the ef scenes, to make the concept more..clear. First time, I couldn't understand at all. Unless Bob is watching Ef in HD full color!! haha
Overall it wasn't that bad, I enjoyed it 2nd time around. Felt like it needed a better score, compare to the top two winners.
You amaze me for working with a song you hate and sources that you're not even familiar with C: the sync was flawless, of course you did a great job picking out the perfect clips and capturing the mood, that is what I liked the best
Congrats on moving on to the next round, but it doesn't surprise me C:
Your description makes me more sympathetic with Bob than I was before D': such a sad story, I hope he gets his life together :1 please keep me posted
I actually think you did a great job with portraying your concept, I could see it the first time I watched the video. xD However I do agree with the others about integrating EF a little better since it's very noticeable at times and doesn't blend very well at times despite similar styles. Still, to do something like this in such a short time is pretty amazing, definitely one of my favs from that round. Keep up the good work!
Its always hard to portray very specific story elements I got a general sense of what was happening, but it was much clearer once I read the explanation.
