I just downloaded the trial yesterday, Haven't really seen much but what comes with it, at least, is pretty much the same, the layout is quite a bit different, but the editor accepts every format ever.

Vegas 8 already allowed for project nesting, if that's what you're talking about. =\

For those that don't feel like wandering around Sony's page, here's what they say is new in Vegas Pro 9:
Copy-pasted from this page

  • New! 4K support for frame sizes up to 4096x4096
  • New! Support for capturing directly to XDCAM-compatible MXF files from supported SD/HD-SDI sources
  • New! Automatic source media adjustment for working with mismatched media
  • New! Enhanced 32-bit floating point video levels mode designed to work like 8-bit mode but with the precision needed for 10-bit and higher sources and render formats
  • New! Gradient wipe transition
  • New! Glint, Rays, Defocus, Starburst, Soft Contrast, and Fill Light video effects
  • New! Place and edit audio without quantizing to frame boundaries, while still quantizing video edits
  • New! Multichannel audio adds from Trimmer Window
  • New! Includes native 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Vegas Pro software
  • New! Enhanced user interface with layout presets
  • New! Impressive lighting effects including Glint, Rays, and Fill Light
  • New! Darker color palette UI for optimized viewing
  • New! Audio Mixing and Color Correction default layouts
  • New! Browse XDCAM EX and AVCHD contents in Device Explorer
  • New! Import and edit XDCAM EX files natively, no conversion required
  • New! Support for gigapixel images
  • New! Read and save DPX, OpenEXR, and Microsoft HD Photo formats
  • New! Open and edit RED ONE™ files on the timeline
  • New! Device Explorer for AVCHD and XDCAM EX devices
... yea ...

Yeah, well... Vegas 8 wouldn't work with my 64-bit OS, and 8.1 wouldn't work as a trial for me, so I wouldn't know. >_>

I have done over 12 hours of editing today on sony vegas pro 9.0 (dont ask me why 12 hours i was really bored to day, and yes i did have breaks in betweem -_-)

And i have to say it works really well.
some kick ass transitions, and some really good effects i might use in my upcoming lucky star AMV.

BUT i dont know if it was my computer but it seams to crash when u are right in the midlle of your work
E.g: lots of clips, effects, markers, scripts in your project. But like i said it could be my computer

All in all it is awesome!

I'm so tempted to go grab a free trial right now, but since I can only get one trial per computer, I might wanna wait on that. New transitions? Seriously? I downloaded a trial of Vegas Pro 8 and honestly, I couldn't see a significant difference between that and my copy of Vegas 7. :|

Most of the updates in Vegas 9 really don't benefit an AMV maker. However, if you use footage from actual video cameras the new support is nice.

Actually, there is one notable thing that speeds up the work flow. In Vegas 8 the clips would have a billion thumbnails and now in Vegas 9, its just for the beginning, middle and the end. So constant zooming in the time line isn't a pain to load up the thumbnails even if it just takes a second longer. This is only a big deal if your PC is weak or just average.
Don't think outside the box. There is no box. It is the will of the mind. A mind that is limited by a psychological box. The box does not control you. Do not succumb to the box!

There's a setting in the preferences to change that anyway. Or at least there is in 9; I assume there is in 8 as well.

I actually like how it has all of the thumbnails because then I can just see how the video looks without having to click on a frame when I'm adjusting velocity or something, you know?

I think I would only consider getting 9 if it's faster takes less loading time than 8, you know? That's the only thing I would like an improvement on... x3
