Everyone and I do mean everyone run out to Best Buys now!!!

Postby Mr Pilkington » Sat Jan 04, 2003 3:19 am

Earlier today I was out running around aimlessly (Long story short: I have to finish off a tank of gas before I can take my Emissions test again, need the juice to tale effect.) when I deiced to stop in to Best Buy's for a minute to check out some prices. When to my surprise I saw the full 26 (TV) episodes to Nadesico! Only 60 bucks I though! Well I just got paid and I have money burning a hole in my pocket, so I picked it up. When I got to register the thing rang out @ $29.99  (Price tag of $59.99!!) Fuck me running!!! I thought, but kept my damn mouth  shut for fear of loosing my golden opportunity. How much ass!! So much ass does that kick!!

Moral of the story: Run, now! Don't delay!! Don't even stop to read the responses!! Go get your own copy before this insanity ends :!:

Why do you need anime shops in NI when we have such good internet import stores?

Best Buy is an American electronics retailer, for those overseas who are not in the know. They sell TVs, computers, video games, shit like that, as well as music and videos. They're best known for 1. making their employees REALLY PUSH extended warranty service on every electronics purchase, and 2. punishing said employees for doing the right thing and not bothering the customer about it too much.

Also, if you decline extended warranty service, they've been known to delay your purchase by telling you the item you want is out of stock in the back store room and that you have to wait for it to come in.

Either way, I don't really go to Best Buy.

I only gbo to Best Buy because the prices are decent for a non-internet store.

I, too, saw the Nadesico Box Set for $60, but I didn't know it'd ring up as $30...

I wish I wasn't broke right now... ::cries::

Fry's Electronics actually has cheaper prices. For example, Vandread DVDs are 19.99 at Fry's and 22.99 at Best Buys. (It's only about 3 dollars difference, but still) I also got my Nadesico box set at Best Buys, I think I got it on November 10th or sometime around then. (For 59.99, because the employee didn't mess up in my case :D) Unfortunately one of the episodes, I think it was the episode in which Akito is wondering about his role as a pilot in the beginning of the episode after the opening, glitches at that point, which makes me believe that something happened during shipping.

At any rate, according to a friend of mine who helps out at a local import store, electronic retail stores like Fry's and Best Buy already increase the prices of their DVDs around 100 percent so as to cover costs should anything merchandise need to be returned. (I had to return my Magic Knights Rayearth Season 2 box set to Fry's once because they had 3 of the same volumes placed together in the same box, so I know that DVDs do get returned every now and then.) It makes me shudder to think how much stores like Media Play and other generally "domestic" video stores are increasing the prices if that's the case. (I've seen the Trigun set for 250 dollars at Media Play.)

Is it any wonder that there are illegal import DVDs made in Taiwan and Hong Kong where most collections are almost always 50 dollars or less? 0_0;

Illegal kicks!! I just picked up Fuishigi Yugi from a friend of mine in HK for arround $80. Importing is the only way to go. Oh, And FYI: It's only illegal if the anime is liscensed in the counry in which you live ( and your caught. )

It's still illegal, since you can import the Region2 DVDs. :)

Realistically however, if actually looked at the way the region laws are spelled out, it is neither illegal to own a foreign regioned DVD player or DVD. The laws are merely inplace to make it difficult to import movies. And really the region laws are inplace more due to bootlegging than actual importing it-self.

Umm...

You're making up your own laws.

Just because it's "not available in your country" doesn't mean you have a right to own a version that's not produced by the original license holders.

That's called "pirating" and it's "illegal" no matter what you try to convince yourself otherwise.

im probrobly gonna get flamed for this but so be it. Country A has a DvD series i would like to own while in Country B but Country B does not import this series ... so i take it into my own hands through contacts in Country A and procure myself a copy ... now if the copy WAS bought in a store that legitamately sells them in Country A .. is it wrong to have it shipped to Country B?
