In my experience, Walmart usually only (sometimes) has the newest releases of pseudo popular anime and kinda big name OVAs. Sometimes they get older disks and more obscure anime. But that's usually what I've seen.

Spiral Complete Series: $65ish

Gunslinger Girl: $45ish

Ah! My Goddess: $65ish

Now I'm broke.

I've never seen bootlegs like that. I've seen all of FLCL on one disc, several 13-episode series' on two discs, and 26-episode series' on three discs.

Well, I reported around 100 of them one day, so I don't know what to say. =/

I'm not saying you're lying, I'm just saying that not all bootlegs are low quality.

You can get older legit series for a good deal. I bought the R1 DVD set of RahXephon a few years back for $50 when the box was going for $100+.

I just picked up the whole Love Hina set + specials on 3 DVDs for 20 bucks...

I thought it might be too good to be true but I can not tell if it is a bootleg or not. Is there any way to tell?

You can find people seling legit box sets really cheap sometimes but
26 episodes and 3 specials on 3 DVDs ?
That doesn't sound right.

The love hina box sets should be like this
http://www.rightstuf.com/cgi-bin/catalo ... 9821/4/0/0
http://www.rightstuf.com/cgi-bin/catalo ... 9449/4/0/0

That seems like too many episodes on a disc.

that is what I thought moonie...

Then I put the DVD in to check it out...

It has crappier resolution than the OGM fan sub files I have!!!

Gah he better return them for me. This is very upsetting.

Yeah, the quality wont be that good if you squeeze that much on a disc

Always check the number of episodes on the discs
Thats a good way to tell if its a bootleg.
Alot of series are spread out among 4,5 or more discs

Another way to tell is by the region and subtitles
Alot of the bootlegs have Chinese and english subtitles and are region free.

If they sent it USPS it's mail fraud and you should report it.

I was going to report it but I emailed the guy...

I think he knows that I am calling bull shit on these DVDs...I explained to him how I ran the DVD's side by side with the fan subs I have and about the quality.

He just said I could return them and he would refund me which is all I wanted. I could report him but if the refund goes through fine I just won't buy from him anymore.

Guess I will only be buying from rightstuf...expensive but I hate bootleggers. I really thought I was getting a good deal.

Oh well~
