MS Vista - 50% to 70% Off - CompUSA Closing

Postby TaranT » Sun Apr 22, 2007 1:47 am

CompUSA stores which are closing have been selling versions of Microsoft Vista for 40% off of list. Examples: Ultimate Edition Upgrade $156, Home Basic Upgrade $60. These prices are lower than the cost of OEM copies at Newegg, and cheaper than the student prices that I could locate.

Amount of stock is reasonable given the circumstances: about 5-10 copies of each version except for Home Premium. Very few people were looking at them (which might say something all by itself).

Also, Office 2007 products are tagged for 30% discounts.

A comparison of Vista's versions can be found here.

Newbie note: Vista may require significant hardware upgrades for any version above Home Basic.

OMG my store only has about 2 weeks left until we close! I probably should of mentioned the 40% off Vista myself . If you've been waiting to try Vista, picking it up at a CompUSA that is closing is a sweet deal. My store (Minnetonka, MN #787) has tons of Basic (Upgrade/Full) and lots of Home Premium (Upgrade only, I think), and Ultimate (Upgrade, normal and the uber signed Bill Gates version LOL). And I thought getting Ultimate Full for $350 was nice as an employee. Bah, if I only waited.

As far as the hardware requirements go, be sure you have a decent processor, dual core if possible. And they say 512 megs of RAM, but please have at least 1 gig. Also a little thing about ReadyBoost. Don't spend the money on a flash drive for ReadyBoost, buy more RAM instead. It is much more cost effective. Yeah, ReadyBoost can help, but for me I haven't noticed much improvement with 1 gig of system RAM and a 2 gig Ultra II SD card.

Well, my last day was today. All we had left for Vista was Home Basic and someone bought all we had left, about 100 copies to sell on eBay. It was at 70% off. My store closes Monday. The only thing I bought during the closing was a Zune for $175. I'll miss CompUSA for two reasons; a local computer shop and very enjoyable fellow employees and managers at any job I've had.

yeah .. seeing those homeless people holding signs saying 30% off in front of walmart on 494 didn't do anything for CompUSA either!
