I/O Magic PCI PVR $10 after rebate at CompUSA

Postby jbone » Sun Dec 08, 2002 3:16 pm

I went to CompUSA for some CD-Rs and happened to find an I/O Magic PCI PVR card for $10 after a $20 mail-in rebate.

I opened the box and - lo and behold - mine was actually manufactured by Pinnacle. :D

Popped it in, installed the software, and it works like a dream. It comes with CyberLink PowerVCRII 3.0, and the MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 encoding looks very nice. (Recorded MPEG-2 640x480 with no visibly dropped frames at CBR 5000bps on my Western Digital 7200RPM drive with 8MB cache.)
"If someone feels the need to 'express' himself or herself with a huge graphical 'singature' that has nothing to do with anything, that person should reevaluate his or her reasons for needing said form of expression, possibly with the help of a licensed mental health practitioner."

It's PC-PVR, and I have the same card.

It would aways freeze my system after 3 minutes or so of capturing, even in VCD spec, but on this new chip/mobo, it works like a charm. I recorded 25 minutes worth of a b-ball game and it was fine. (Though for some reason, only 2 seconds of audio captured, rest was just video)

Ahh yes, I/O magic is a repackager of fine products :p

Their I/O controllers are made by Promise :O

So it's no surprise that you get a Pinnacle in there :\
