This is a new service for people living in Verizon service areas (USA). Basically, it's fiber optic cable to the wall of your house. They're advertising $45-$50 per month for 15 Mbps download with 2 Mbps upload (max speeds). There is also something called "FiOS TV" so this is really an alternative to cable with potential for very fast Internet access.

Nothing can happen until the new cable is put in the ground at your home. This is happening at various rates around the country.
