No big Acrylic box?
No dice!

I'll stick with my old DVDs.
I don't plan on editing with them and I have lived with interlaced eva for years now.

It is a good deal if you don't care about the initial Platinum release. If this is like any other ADV boxsets, there will be no special inserts and no special features (commentary, galleries, etc..including no clean ops/ends). I love my Platinum boxset because of the packaging, booklet insert with images, episode descriptions, bios, info on the remastering process. The commentary, early animation test footage, documentaries, etc. It also has the director's cut episodes in it (so does this thin-pack).

Basically, this thin-pack will lack all that. But you do get higher quality video/audio. But it is not progressive, it is still interlaced! Yeah I spent about $160 to get all the DVD's, but I'm glad I did. Although, I must say the cheap prices of ADV's boxsets have made me buy 12 of them in the last 2 months. And, if you think thats a good deal at Amazon.com, check this out from DVD Empire:

Only $59! However it is on order, so you'll have to wait till they get more in stock.

Buying the Evangelian Platinum collection

Postby mac100020755 » Tue Nov 29, 2005 9:18 pm

I was out today at Wal-Mart and bought the platinum collection at Wal-Mart for $47.00. I love the series and have the original boxed set as well. Just decided to buy it to go with my collection.

they have actually dropped the price to $47.98 as well. It seems too that some of the extras in the previous platinum releases may have been changed as well (which is odd, as they usually just press the same DVD's again and just thinpak them).

hmmm... wonders if it's worth buying...

The thin-packs from ADV have no extras or special features at all. It is just the episodes. At least that is the way the 13 ADV thin-packs I bought in the last 2 months are. Maybe by chance on the Eva Platinum they included some extras, but I doubt it. But still the thin-packs are a great deal anyways. The only thing an AMV'er might miss are the clean opening and closings.

This should be the link to the thin-pack on Wal-Mart.com, but stupid Wal-Mart didn't fill out any info (I'm going by the release date (11/22/05, thus the Platinum thin-pack release).
