Anime at Fry's & Online ($6.99)

Postby TaranT » Mon Oct 24, 2005 3:03 am

Saw these at Fry's in their anime bargain box (they're stacked in a box set in the aisle). Limited edition sets (labeled Platinum Edition) of .hack//sign volumes 3, 4, and 5, all $6.99 each.

v3 includes DVD + OST CD + mini-CD
v4 includes DVD + OST CD
v5 includes DVD + box to store four CDs

Stock is limited and varies with location. These are also listing at the Fry's web site (outpost.com) for the same price.

Our local Fry's also had the three Mamoru Oshii live action films at $6.99: The Red Spectacles, Stray Dog, Talking Head, along with a large number of other titles.

If you're not close to a Fry's, browse the anime DVD list at Outpost.com and look for the clearance prices. Example: complete 4-DVD set for Jubei-chan at $6.99. Supply is limited as always. (Note: navigate to their list and click on "Price" to sort.)

In order to help people remember our name, Outpost.com. We hired a local high school marching band to spell out our name onm thier footbal field.... And to make this moment that much more memerable, we released a pack of ravenous wolves...

After checking out some other online sites, it seems this $6.99 price is not that special (except for those platinum editions).

DVD Planet has a list of anime DVDs priced at $6.99 to $7.49. Click on "$6.99" under Bargain Prices (left column). Then select Anime genre.

The price is as low as $5.99 at DeepDiscountDVD.
At this page, select Advanced Search and set it up for anime less than $10 with images off. When the list appears, you can sort it by price.

It's $6.63 at Overstock.com. Click the Movies tab at the top of the screen. Then "Clearance" under the list for Movies. Then "Anime" on the left, and Sort by Price.

The Right Stuf has clearance DVDs from $5 to $8 approx. Click Online Store (top right), then Bargain Bin (top left), then DVD Bargain Bin.

The selection may be better at Anime Liquidations, but the prices, not so much.

Shipping charges may or may not apply in each case.

6.99 > retail

This EVA set is being offered by Overstock, not Outpost. It appears to be the thinpak set for which The Right Stuf is asking $67. DVDPlanet is listing it for $63. DeepDiscountDVD wants $54.

Overstock is still listing it for $6.63. There's talk that it might be a pricing error, or not. Slickdeals has tagged it as expired.

Yup!

Anyway, it looks like Overstock finally updated their site: $85. And the brief description suggests that it is the old (pre-Platinum) boxset which makes more sense as an "overstock" item. Of course, why pay $85 for the old one when you can wait and get the new one for $54.

(And compare that with $325 for the original sub-only tapes. )
