What you can do is buy an internal 250gb HD for around $100 or so, and then buy an external enclosure for around $30 that makes the internal HD work just like an external. Works really well.

I've done the same thing before and it works awesome. But if you don't want to bother with that I found some links to a few good deals. (Funny thing is that Best Buy had a 200GB external Maxtor for $109 last week.)

Beyond Micro 200GB - $129
LaCie 250GB - $169
Fantom 300GB - $174

But if you want to make an external check this stuff out!

Maxtor 250GB - $91
Bytecc 5.25" Enclosure - $29 (I use this one right now and it works great for me!)
Bytecc 3.5" Enclosure - $31

Or you may get lucky and do what i did
Get a 300gb internal from seagate , which is crap.
wait a month for it to die
rma it back to seagate
get a new 400gb hd
then throw it in a 30 dollar enclosure case
its something like a 400gb external for like 170 bucks

Interesting, there must be a problem with the 300 GB Seagates since tonight while closing the computers department at Best Buy (My Job ^_^), we took the 300GB Seagates off the shelves because of manufactuer errors. I used to love Seagates, but my last one died in 3 months (I got a replacement and its been fine for 1 year so far) and now this problem. Maybe this is why they have a 5 year warranty. Shame on you Seagate!

thanks for the info, I guess I'll go with the hookup seeing that it's cheaper and that you've used it and work.

 thanks :D

Yeah I checked some reviews on the drive, after i bought it and they al pretty much say its crap. From what i could piece together the 300 drives had a cooling problem and to keep from over heating it would restart itself. The think would make this clicking noise like one of those door stop spring thingys all the time, Ihad a bunch of footage on there too.
So i leave the thing on and when i dtry to check it out. The thing is fried. im not sure it even lasted 3 months, the worst drive i ever got. Good news is they sent me a 400 and the things has been working fine for the past 3-4 months. So I lost alot of data but i guess im compensated with 100 extra gb.
