I've gotten back about $400 in mail-in-rebates over the last 4 years. Me, my brother, and dad have all used rebates and we have never had a problem. Sometimes they take longer than stated for arrival, but I always get them. Just make sure to print clearly in permanent ink, cut the upc clean, and mail it in a good envelope (ie: don't cram it in all bunched up in a tiny envelope).

I thought I'd mention you could buy a hard drive separtely and put it in an usb2/firewire external enclosure (about $35-40 online). This way you can make your own *cheap* external hard drive. I did it and saved at least $40 from a retail product. I believe Best Buy has a deal *in-store* (I saw it yesterday, Dec 27) for a 120 Gb Seagate 8 Mb cache drive for $50 (normally $100; I got the same Seagate for $70 with rebates a few months ago). They also have a 300 Gb Seagate on sale with rebates for $150 (normally $220). A external 300 Gb hard drive at best buy will cost you $300 or more, so a $150 300 Gb hard drive + a $40 enclosure = a $190 external 300 Gb hard drive. That gives you at least $110 in savings! Maybe I should of started a thread devoted to this, whoops. Anyways, if you're willing to use mail-in-rebates and patience, you can get huge savings in creating your own external hard drive! Happy rebating ^_^!
