DivX Player - Philips DVP642

Postby TaranT » Thu Jun 03, 2004 2:40 am

A friend of mine picked up one of these from Walmart ($70). He confirms that it plays both DivX and Xvid files from CD-R, but seems to prefer 640x480 size for some reason. It's sometimes jittery with very high bit rate files, but has no problems with low or medium bit rates. It also plays normal disc formats (CD, DVD, etc.)

More info can be found at http://www.videohelp.com (formerly, www.dvdrhelp.com).

Nice... maybe I'll check it out one of these days.

The Kiss Playerscan also play DivX files (I've heard that they work pretty well).

Walmart's retarded site wrote:Features DivX technology, allowing you to fit a full-length movie on a single standard CD-R disc, with no quality loss

When the fuck did Divx become lossless?.............. and what the fuck are they smoking? :D

And DivX never looked that great on high-def TV anyway.

It's interesting that they're making these players. On one hand, the industry tells everybody to stop pirating music and movies... and on the other hand they're selling standalone DivX players and mp3 players. :?
