Save your pennies. This begs the question, if Phade had the money, would he buy this? Because this could be a goal of donations to eliminate cost. Either that or I'm missing something. Either way, I just felt like posting this.

Even if you run your own server (which I'm pretty sure Phade does), you have to pay an ISP, and even if you become an ISP you have to pay the companies owning the lines you feed your data in and out of for the bandwidth. Bandwidth is thus a somewhat unavoidable cost concern for something of this site's nature and magnitude - as much as it may seem 'free' to us in the relatively small amounts that we use.

But those are some nice computers. Renderfarm, anyone?

Anyone know how much disk space the site is using and how much total space there is?

The thing about bandwidth is that it's an artificially limited commodity. It's not like there's a real physical limit to it.

As for a renderfarm, it's probably more economical to build a massive Beowulf from a bunch of cheap obsolete computers. Get enough of them, and you can outperform anything.

this site has 1 terrabit of storage and uses about half of that as of 2 months ago. it has dule centrino 2.2ghz cpu's and 4 gigs of ram if i am not mistaken. it takes about $3000 usd to run per month and that is why donations are necesary. that $3000 im asuming covers the isp, electricity ect.
