Best Buy Smashes ADV Street Dates!

Postby dokool » Sat Apr 03, 2004 5:14 pm

Just got back from the local Best Buy (Willow Grove, store #576, where I picked up Puni Puni Poemy as well as Kino's Journey volume 2. Neither are supposed to be on the shelves till this Tuesday.

Didn't see anything else I was looking for, but it might be a good idea to check your Best Buy and see if this week's slate of ADV stuff has turned up early.

You must have some awesome Best Buy's around your area. The only closest to me takes forever to get anime. I had to wait a week extra to get Wedding Peach ;_; But I'm going shopping tonight so maybe I'll be in luck this time. Thanks for the heads up.

Best Buy is notorious for always breaking street date (even on like really big name titles. They had Spider-Man out a week beforehand). It's actually illegal to do it, but they normally get away with it. I doubt most consumers are really complaining about it, but I know other retailers friggin hate it (I used to work at a Fry's Electronics, and my managers were always bitching about them).

This isn't anything different. Almost all DVDs these places release are already in stock in the back a week prior to the street date. As Atomx said, it's illegal, but for anime I imagine no one cares.

The last 3 or 4 anime DVDs I've ordered have come a good week prior to the street date, so I imagine this online store does the same thing.

Just be thankful ;).

Yes, but your best buy has the greatest prices in the world! Abenobashi with box wound up just over $20 while here its been a constant 35.99. I can get the R2 for less than that! I have to come to visit more often :P

My local DVD rental store, Disc Is It, often gives me the discs I pre-order before the street date. That's if I happen to walk in before the release date and when they get it. That and the proprieters know me. They sell all DVDs 15% off retail.

They won't release the mainstream movies early. I guess the big movie companies are more stringent about it. But they tell me Blockbuster is always putting titltes out for rent before the street date.
