are you all quite finished argueing yet?

It's wonderful that we have a personal spokesperson for the Anime Community, but will you chill out. The only reason I added that site was because they have series that are not released in America yet. And it's wonderful that you compare buying them cheap to paying someone to steal them, but not everybody here has money to toss around like confetti. If they are released in America - buy them in America. but if they aren't, you would have to be insane to pay up to $60 for one Japanese DVD (in the wrong region to play on US DVD players) with no subbs usually.

And if the Taiwanese rip offs are so illegal, then how come I have found stores that have Taiwanese rip off Japanese CDs for sale at US CD prices? Stores, I might add, that have been open for years.
Someone really fucking hates me. If you ever decide to show your face, please, pay me a visit. I’d like to introduce you to several obscene gestures.

Except for the rare show or two, I'm pretty sure series that are not released in America yet (unlicensed that is) are being fansubbed. While fansubs still may be illegal, you're not paying people for it. So yeah, people don't have money to throw around, but if they had a little money, they shouldn't be throwing it at the bootleg sellers.

Nobody said this was a cheap hobby but there are ways of getting things at a reasonable price without resorting to bootlegs and giving money to people who deal with all sorts of things your grandmother wouldnt want you to know about.

1) Try official releases from other countries.

Australia is very cheap (but NTSC>PAL conversions, which sucks for editing... good enough for watching though)

Korea can be pretty cheap. I just bought all of azumanga daioh there for 130 usd with loads of extras and crap. Sure, no subs but there's subs on the internet and it's worth it for the footage.

Indonesia have some official releases, many of them with english subs. Things like pretear, boys be etc can be purchased from them. They are dirt cheap, thanks to exchange rates.

Official Hong Kong region 3 releases, such as the offiial releases of the Ghibli movies (more than you have in the US) are really really cheap there.

http://www.dvdpricecheck.co.uk/ will look for the cheapest prices in all sorts of countries.

2) Try second hand or as-new stores in japan. I picked up my digi charat dvds from http://www.animejungle.com for cheap. They are always worth checking out.

So, to my understanding, your saying that I bought bootleg dvd's? I recently bought Naruto Box Set 1-3(this link only shows 1-2) from ebay. If this is true, then all Naruto dvd's that are currently up for sale are bootlegged? Because there are currently two different types of box sets. I have seen "series" and "part" box sets. I recently saw a "volume" series that really looks like the real thing, although this could just be another fake. Then there is this auction that is bidding off pretty real-looking Naruto DVD's. So, in my mind, I am beginning to think that ANY Naruto DVD's off of ebay are fake. Is this true?

Sorry for double posting, but, I found these dvd's and they look a lot more like a real box set from Japan. Don't know for sure, so someone please reply, thank you.

Unless it's region 2 (won't play on most U.S. DVD players), any Naruto DVD you're getting in the U.S. is definately fake (b/c it's not even licensed, much less released here). And please don't necropost.

Thank you for replying. I don't exactly know what necroposting is, but, if I do it or have done it, I am very sorry. If anyone would like to see the dvd's that were supposed to be linked in my double post, again, I am sorry, herethey are.

This is all.

I will trouble you no more.

Necroposting is posting to a topic that has been dead (inactive) for some time.

And those DVDs are definitely bootlegs. All Region, Chinese and English subtitles, insanely low price (seventeen R2 DVDs should run you in the neighborhood of $600 at 3500 yen/DVD). All of those are bootleg indicators, plus only 63 episodes of Naruto have been released on legitimate DVDs in Japan over nineteen DVDs.

For more on bootleg indicators, look in this thread.

"Necropost" = to post in what had formerly been a "dead" topic, hence the name.

Around here it's generally looked down upon, especially if the one who did it isn't a newbie.

Wow. I forgot I was even a member here until i got an email notification. This thing is LONG dead. Please . . . Let it rest in peace.

Bootlegs are bad. Buy from fansubbers if its not out and you don't speak the language - the subs are MUCH better. Buy the ones released in america.

And ebay is filled with bootlegged crap. A customer at the comic book/ anime store store where I work was saying how he bouhg two japanese import games on ebay for full price because they were hard to find games. He got them in the mail and the games where game rips, not the real ones. And they weren't even the right region. The guy who sold them closed his ebay account and isn't answering his emails, so the customer is in the middle of a lawsuit with ebay. General rule - if it has chinese/ english subs at a cheap price and there's only 2-3 CDs, it's pirated.
