The Internet has Lied to Me!!!!!

To think such a thing could happen!!

I read up on some things though and most HK dvds are said to be multi region. So, I just don't know I guess.

The problem at hand is still baffling. If they can pop in one of their other dvds and it works, then it's probably the disc itself.

But I'm no IT guy....

Nappy wrote:hmm u sure they are even dvds? wanna show us the auction to see what he was selling? Hks, Region 2s, vcds, divx on disks, who knows what those ebay ppl sell o_o If its the real deal region 1s then they shouldn't have probs. Otherwise try to get ur money back @_@
I bought them the day after Christmas so the auction page doesnt exist anymore :( The guy that sold them promised that they were DVDs and not VCDs or anything of that sort...

Sierra Lorna wrote:I've actually had this happen to me a few times before. My advice to you would actually be to try again later. It's really weird, but my DVD drive just doesn't read certain DVDs as well as others. I'm not really sure what causes it, but usually your computer will eventually be able to read the DVDs if you keep trying. So, reboot your computer, or wait a few days, and try again!

You can also try cleaning the DVDs for fingerprints... that's how I fixed the problem with this one FF9 disc. Clean the DVD really well with a soft cloth and the drive might be able to read it better.

I hope this will help fix your problem!

thnx for the suggestion. i actually think that might work because earlier today the dvds wouldnt play very well in the PS2 *in the middle of an episode it would stop and say cannot read disk etc* but then i tried a few hours later and it worked lol.

BishounenStalker wrote:I know this will sound like a really random question, but what color is the read surface of the DVD? Because some computers or even CD players won't read sertain colors.

For instance, my discman won't read CDs with blue or dark read surfaces. And whil the DVD drive at home will read Playstation CDs for ripping, the one on my laptop won't because it's a black read surface.
The DVDs have a blue surface...

They may be unofficial DVD copies (i.e. not professionally burned or duplicated, but instead copied on someone's DVD-R burner).

He didnt buy the episodes in DVD format. He had some really high quality vhs tapes or vcds or something of the series and just burned them onto DVD discs..

Hmmm, that could be the problem. I've heard some DVD-ROM drives don't like DVD-R media. How old are your drives anyhow?

could be the issue. I'm not exactly sure how old the writable DVD "standards" are, but if the drives predate their introduction commercially, not being able to read such discs shouldn't be entirely a surprise.

Especially since these "standards" aren't mutually compatible, for pete's sake. See the link for a better explanation of the problem, which might also have something to do with your read issues.

I would say see if you can get them to work on a friends computer. If so, maybe you could get them to let you borrow their dvd-rom O_o

My DVD-ROM is from 1999 and cannot play DVD-R's. It played perfectly in my DVD player but won't work. Best bet is if you cannot get them to play in the next couple of days, get a new DVD-ROM. They're pretty cheap now a days, like I saw one for $50 ^^
