Too many Linkin Park videos

Postby shocker » Sat Feb 01, 2003 10:46 pm

I have heard many comments from so many saying that they would not recommend any more Linkin Park videos or anything like that. Now I'm not here to bash Linkin Park. In fact I am a big LP fan. I'm only asking you all one question:

Why do so many people choose Linkin Park songs for their videos?

I, personally, doubt it has to do with taste.

I don't.

It's not so much the song, but the combination of song and video.

Look it's a fact! Linkin Park is just another band with zero talent and only 3 chords in their inventory. They write not their own lyrics and sing like a bunch of rabid cats in a back-alley brawl. Personally I would sooner shove live rounds in my ears than voluntarily listen to that garbage.

that's sorta like asking why DBZ is so popular....
no one really knows why...it just is.

it wouldn't be as bad if all those linkin park vids were to all different kinds of anime, but they're pretty much ALL to DB-something.

ionno. just try to deal. most of us here more or less HAVE to.

In total agreement Mr. Pilkington. And I love the avatar! Though I know not where it's from :)

In fact, I despise 90% of what's on the radio. I prefer music with actual emotion or meaning or ::gasp:: even actual singing! And 90% of today's radio hasn't produced any of that. In fact, it hasn't BEEN producing it for at least the last ten years.

The first time I heard LP in my friend's car, I asked him who the guys who sounded like they'd shoved the mikes down their throats and belched week-old beer were. He told me it was LP, and that he wanted me to listen to it and hear the sad state of popular music today because he knows I've been out of the American music loop for the last decade. I swear, I like stuff that's either not from this country or over ten years old.

The most satisfying aspect of having WEIRD musical taste is the reactions of radio zombies. Nothing beats my dad and I cruising down the expressway blasting Lord of the Dance with the windows wide open and getting "WTF?!" looks from the bassers next to us. Or better yet, that same guy friend and I on our way to MegaCon a few years ago (in full costume as Sephiroth and Aeris no less) speeding down I-4 blaring orchestrated One Winged Angel (and singing along!). You wouldn't BELIEVE the looks we got!

Thanx! It's from the Critic. Jurassic Park II "The Revenge of the Raptors" to be exact. A clip from episode 10, of season 1. It's the origin of my screen-name not to mention funny as all hell.

I KNEW the art style looked familiar! The critic's hysterical, I catch it when I actually stay up that late. My favorite was the debutante ball episode ^_^

I like LP, not afraid to admit it. But you know the reason its used in so many vids really is because its so damn mainstream. And the reason most of those vids are so poor is because they are made by extremely casual/lazy creators. People who hear songs on the radio and just figure they might as well make a vid, then spend an hour or two using d/led clips and figure they're set.
The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

I enjoy most of Linkin Park's stuff.

It's your own fault if you subject yourself to the radio, TV, and other forms of crap mass media to *get* to the point of personal overexposure.

I can count on one hand the times I've heard a Linkin Park song when I didn't want to. They're hardly overplayed to me.

Plus, I seriously doubt the people in the above posts who bash videos made to Linkin Park songs have gone out of their way to check out some of the better ones... and if you have, more power to you...

I have to agree with the fact that it's all the same thing...
I don't mind Linkin Park, My brother has their album, But too many people do DBZ videos to their songs, and what makes it worse.. they use the same footage (i should know about this, i have about 10 linkin ball vids on my computer)

if the footage was from various animes instead DBZ all the time, it wouldn't be so bad....

I think the reason there are so many DBZ - linkin park vids, is because it is just so easy to do with DBZ, you don't need a ton of brains for it, there is a bit of footage that goes with any beat in a large number of the 250-300 epesodes of it (or was it 450-500, who knows??)..

I find, now i see linkin park and i ignore it...

Plus i prefer bands that accually do thier own work...

now if you'll excuse me.. my Superhiest video is calling me..

I think (heh, like you care) that the reason there is so much linkin park is because so many passive anime lovers(as far as I know most hardcore don't) absolutly love them and they also love the mindless fighting and crappy storyline of DBZ(and the fact it is free, ugh). It is a type of person that that both of those, the band and the anime, and they turn around and make the videos. They are, like before stated by someone else, lazy by nature. They skid by in school, slack in work and are overall lazy because they are well.....not intelligent enough to figure out that their life could turn out to be shit. This is the kind of attitude in my opinion that makes the person bad at making the videos. Well I was actually just describing a kid that I know....a few kids that I know and they are all just like that, except they also like yu gi oh........which IMO is equally....what's the word.....crappy, but for different reasons(I like the smoother animation compared to DBZ but the card concept I dislike, even thoguh I play them myself.)
Well it is 2:58am where I am so I want to get back to my downloading(I'll be buying the anime soon enough.....I just can't spend my momey on that now.) as you can probably guess I could be compleatly off base about this and offend a few of you and disgust the rest but whatever the result I bid you farewell.[/u]

I'm not afraid to admit I like Linkin Park as well. I'm also not afraid to say that they ARE over played and it's easy to get tired of them. I can also tell you why it's used so much, and not just to DBZ (There's alot of LP videos out there. Not just to DBZ, but to almost every semi popular anime)

The reason is the sound just plain fits.

The thing most of these AMV creators who use LP don't seem to get is that putting music to random Anime is not what makes a good music video, the lyrics play an important role... it has to fit the feeling of what's going on in the video. This explains the abundance of DBZ videos: It goes to the music. If you ever watch the fight scenes of DBZ (I'm also not afraid to admit I like DBZ), the fighting, when put at different speeds and such, just goes very well to rythem, music, ETC ETC ETC... however again, most people don't take the story and what's going on to heart... I find this odd to, because most of LP's songs fit alot of stuff going on in Anime, just the AMV Creators I guess don't have enough creativity to realize this, which is why we'll see a Crawling video to Dragonball Z, which the song has NOTHING to do with any of the scenes/stories/characters of DBZ whatsoever. Period.

Now I'm gonna use a personal example with a video I've already made/going to remake, my first video I made actually: a Bardock tribute to Linkin Park's "Pushing Me Away" (Spoilers abound from here on out, so if you haven't seen the Bardock special or actually care which I'm sure won't make up the majority, feel free to skip the rest of this post and go to the conclusion) The song itself is about being in a relationship where the person takes advantage of you, and the attitude is slowly pushing you away from them. Now, I made the Bardock video in the perspecitve of his relationship to Frieza, who wants to kill his entire race to prevent them from someday getting strong enough to over throw Frieza. The video of course concludes with his confrontation with Frieza, and the destruction of the Saiyans' planet. Simply put, The song matches the story portrayed. The video actually makes sense.

So in conclusion, There is too much Linkin Park. Hopefully it'll die out soon, since the Band itself seems to have disappeared off the face of the Earth (I don't count Reanimation as anything)... but somehow, I doubt it.

A lot of fans got their first taste of anime through DBZ, sadly enough, and so they think it would be a good idea to make a music video to it because they like watching action and rock music. Thing is they want to just watch fighting to rock music so editing becomes nill in the videos. As for it being Linkin Park I think it winds up being based on the one or two line concept, simply because one or two lines fit, they go for the entire song, a very poor way to select music for an AMV.
