Lack of inspiration... Help?

Postby Sora no Honou 空の炎 » Thu Apr 08, 2010 10:12 pm

I have wanted to edit something together for a while now, but havent really had a drive for it lately. I think that part of it is that I cant really think of too much that would make for a good amv. Have any tips on how I could get motivated, and how to choose a song that would make for a good amv? Thanks.

-Browse the depths of thar interwebs until you stumble upon a song that gives you an idea for a story
-Think of which animu could work with that story idea
-Listen to the song until you find one or two spots where you can place a specific clip from your series
-????
-Inspiration!

You can't find inspiration, inspiration will find you instead.

I generally had motivation after watching something I liked, or listened something I like.

A great way to inspire me is to simply just listen to music. I hear a song that I know I can edit to and if it has a nice flow to it, then I simply start to edit to it. Its the music that captures the audience, not the anime. im new by the way :D

I've always been big on letting inspiration come to you; forcing it usually hinders the product. However, I will say this:

Keep a notepad around for when you do have inspiration. Write down your ideas, no matter where you are, even at the most inopportune times.

Do something you don't usually do. For example, my AMV's were usually either sappy, story oriented or just fight compilations. Then out of boredom, I tried a humerous AMV and it then just feels like it opens up more paths. Usually if you're bored, you want to go further. Then go further. Try making the best Windows Movie Maker AMV (may be ridiculous but will be utterly fun). Other than those, ideas will come with time but if these suggestions still do not help, do random searches on Youtube.
I do all the right things for all the wrong reasons.

keep watching anime until you get catatonia so bad that even though the anime makes you want to spoon out your eyeballs, you can't move. The part of your brain that controlled motor function is now filled with amv ideas as you sit in a pool of urine and lose all of your algebra and english skills, at this point, you get to the music part. You have to listen to music so loud that parts of your brain filled with crappy anime like inuyasha or dragonball, and even crappier shows like naruto can be formatted and replaced with your newfound grammar and spelling skills. Then you go on the internet and find a lyrics site and just read lyrics from every band they have, spend days learning new words whether they are gangster words or just made up for the song, then download so many mp3s that the riaa turns its focus away from uploaders and downloaders and only focuses on you, then. Gert in an fbi standoff by barricading yourself in a room listening to every song nonstop while eating your own crap, only stopping to drink water or get a snack so that you listen to a hundred songs a day for 3 years. Then shoplift a best buy of the most expensive editing software and move to mexico and join the hispanic mafia so that you can cash in on drug money so you can afford a fancy mansion with a huge tv and a beast of a pc, use this to make elitist videos while you are jerking off to every hentai series ever made that you spend all your time torrenting, as you buy all the anime blu rays that exist in the world, not just in north america so you can have a stockpile of editing source material to last you until old age. So, basically it's all about shoving anime and music down your throat, stealing as much intellectual property along the way as you can, and being a spoiled rich prick that can afford those 500 dollar anime boxsets. Otherwise, there is no way to be the best of the best.

Do something REALLY ballsy or something you NEVER thought you'd do (talk to girls) then, if you survive, take a look at your amvs and see how much they SUCKED. That should give you the inspiration to do something better.

Wise man once said 'if you can dodge cars you can dodge balls!' Pretty much the same thing here. Fear is the MASTER inspiration artist. Without the shit flowing through your pants you have no inspiration.
