so I'm a total beginner...

Postby .Cake. » Tue Jan 26, 2010 5:43 am

Hey all,

like the title said, I'm a total beginner when it comes to AMV's, both in creating and appreciating. Joined this site yesterday, and it's a beauty! Reason I joined is because I had an idea of an AMV in my head for a couple of days now, and I'm toying with the idea to create it (just for myself to start with, but that doesn't matter atm). So I'm reading all the guides and some posts, but I get the feeling that some of them are a bit outdated. Is this true? I mean, they're talking about VHS and laser-disks
Another question would be: as a beginner in creating AMV's, would you need the latest of the latest pc-setup, or could I start out with a bit lower-quality equipment? Because tbh, my pc is a bit crappy (along the lines of Pentium 4.2 , can't look up any details, I'm at university atm), and I can't afford to upgrade it/buy a new one, so if that is the case then I'll just wait to create the AMV until I actually have something decent to work with

Other than that I just wanted to say I'm very glad to have found a site like this, because I had no idea how to go about and make an AMV. Keep up the good work all!

(Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum.)

I never thought about it before, but yeah, having old guides would be confusing I guess. Anyway, yes, 3/4th guides are out of date. The following are reasonably recent, ignore the rest:

AbsoluteDestiny & ErMaC's Technical Guides to All Things Audio and Video mk3
So You Want To Be An Anime Music Video Editor?
So You Want To Be A *GOOD* Anime Music Video Editor?
recent video forum posts

Any PC made within the last five to ten years should be fine. Quite a few of us started on Pentium II's or other similarly ancient technology. HD space is more important than processor, provided you don't mind waiting for things to encode.

And since the org has a certain reputation to maintain, [MOD258: Redacted - godix said welcome in his own language.]

There's also a guide on how to upload just in case if you wanna upload your AMVs here. And if you haven't read it already, there's the site and forum rules if you plan on sticking around. Welcome to the Org and enjoy your stay.

Thanks for the replies, especially the non-outdated links are good to have ;) And thanks for the welcomes as well
So I take it I'd be able to make one provided I have enough HD space (which I think I have, need to clear out some stuff anyway), although I'm not gonna start anytime soon. This will be kind of a long-term project for me to work on whenever I feel like it, but it's good to know I'm at least able to with my not-so-up-to-date gear!

Thanks again!

Actually, he's lucky that mirkosp edited some stuff out of my post AND locked the post so I can't go edit it back to what it original said.

Nah, no handjobs this year. Last year I got stuck wacking off mirkosp for his vote and didn't even win. You ever try finding an Italians cock among all his pubic hair? Took me damn near and hour just to find it. Then he kept insisting I call him Mario and imitating the sound of coins being collected while I was yanking on him. So screw it, no handjobs this year. Other than the ones I give myself of course.
