New policy is giving the logs to the person in private. Posting the logs used to just spur drama in the past, so we're trying to avoid it...

X2 I think this should be next week's main video. Suggestions for bonuses?

Bonus should be AMV Hell 4's fantastic credits.

Incidentally, does the bonus video need to be hosted on the org? Or does it even have to be anime, for that matter?

Okay, great review.

Barring any objections, next week's review will be the same time:

12:00pm EST Jan. 23

Bonus videos will be chosen two days before the review in order to give time for a variety of suggestions. Suggestions should be made in this thread.

That was actually interesting being on the other side for a change. Thanks guys.

A few minor rule like thingies. I never liked the logs being posted, too many people just bitched and whined in the threads instead of read the log and continued discussion. AFAIK Kio has roughly the same feelings. So neither of us post logs. Oddly enough, almost always it was dramas from people who weren't the ones reviewed, but that's the org for ya. Kio's free to decide otherwise, but my feeling is log = pointless dramas.

I don't think there was ever a die hard rule that the person being reviewed couldn't be there for the review. Way back when there was discussion and both sides had points. In the end, it just didn't happen enough to worry about. I choose to sleep till 3:30pm instead of being there today, but for future reference I don't think that should automatically disqualify people who are interested in being present from doing so.

Since Kio and I are the only ops of review and neither of us were there, I'm gonna talk to him about expanding the ops some. It's not a big deal, but being able to change the topic, kick trolls if they pop in, etc. would be useful during review times.

Anyway, thanks again guys.

I had company last night (read party at my place, and was drunk), so thanks guys for stepping up. Godix is spot on with the need for more ops, and I also concur that logs = drama. As long as we can all settle on the particulars, it shouldn't matter if all of us make it, just if one of us does. I'll discuss with godix who we might consider extending ops to.

Since review seems to maybe be lasting more than a week or two, perhaps it's time to discuss rules. I notice we've kinda been going off Quadir's old rules even if they might not be best. So here's a few basic rules of review I propose. Discuss and all that if you want.

- If the editor being reviewed chooses to post the logs then they're more than welcome to. Otherwise, logs will not be posted. Note that logs not being posted should not be viewed as the editor actively decided against it; they may not have thought about it or known they were reviewed. If logs are posted, they will not be edited at all - which means any cursing/comments not about the video/etc will be included as well. Mostly this is because I'm a lazy bastard who doesn't feel like filtering off topic comments out of logs.

- If the editor being reviewed wants to be present during the review they can. However, they should keep quiet unless asked a direct question. If need be, this can be enforced by an op putting the channel on +m and voicing everyone but the editor, but hopefully there will be no need. After the final thoughts part of the review, the editor is free to respond in whatever way they want up to and including cursing us all out. Which would actually be kinda amusing, although perhaps not exactly in the spirit of things...

- Quadir traditionally asked people to leave ops before the review. Having just had my video reviewed and comparing the ops to the review, the ops were kinda pointless. Thanks to the people who left them, but everything said in them was also said (and more in depth) during the review itself. So I think leaving ops should not be an expected part of the process nor does time need to be set aside for people to leave ops.

- Review shouldn't be a dictorial thing where it must be Kio or I running things. I rather like that when neither of us were there this week then others stepped up and did it. For future reference, if one of us hasn't announced a video by Thursday then whoever wants to run things that week should feel free. Let me know and I'll give you op power so you can deal with whatever needs to be done. If Kionon doesn't like that, he can damned well make sure things are decided before Thursday...

- I also like the rather informal way bonus vids have been dealt with recently. For the most part, it seems that if someone wants to toss out a good video they've seen recently then they do so. That type of thing for the bonus should be encouraged, don't take these attempts to solidify the rules a bit as meaning you shouldn't toss out stuff like that.

OP'ing should be enforced imho. When I got I win fags reviewed, I got 6 ops, that added to the 4 I already had brought my vid to the top 10% list of the latest year. Now, it's not so much for the video worthiness but because having the video in the top 10% actually DOES give the video attention. I got a lot more QCs, hits, and rates since it got over there. The same can be said about my other 2 vids in the top 10%, which are by far the vids with the most hits and feedback in general.
I think that we should try to review vids with few ops and try to make them reach the 10 op count, so review will have the actual purpose of throwing the vids out there, so there will be more feedback even time after the review session is dealt with. It's more feedback and exposure for the editor, imho. I mean, when I see a vid in the top 10% and I like it I'm like "hey, let's check out the other vids of this guy, too," and if I like 'em I sub to the guy. Not sure if other people do the same, but imho it would be nice.

I agree with godix on everything but ops. I support doing the ops first largely because it will be uninfluenced by the individuals in the channel. Of course people will invariably bring up the same points, but opinions will start altering based on how people present their perceptions. The ops provide the reviewee with the uninfluenced, individual views of the reviewers, and I consider this a good thing.

yeah, for the sake of community participation I agree ops are important... but I think I'll leave mine after from now on ~.~ lol just for the sake of being different... and getting the last word in -_- lol.

I actually agree 100% and is what I thought the times that I had to leave the OP. The point of entering the review channel is reviewing the video itself, if you really wanted to leave an OP, you could have done as well before/after that review; doing so then will have little no difference to the one you're giving being part of a review minutes later. I'm not saying with this that OP's are useless, but that entering the channel and having to give an opinion before expressing the same again, looked somehow repetitive to me.

I don't think that the actual reason for leaving op's is that one. In fact, it could be voiding those other videos that could receive more attention as well; and if the only fact of participating on a review is going to make them more famous and reachable to people, then it would seem unfair to other videos for those to pick a bigger attention. Just my opinion, though, I really don't know if it was supposed to be that way.
