Ya, guess it works in reverse sometimes too but thats more of a gamble. In most cases that outcasts you.
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

Those who know me, and alot who have met me, know I have a high code of honor when it comes to AMVs.

1. I will not use downloaded footage from a commerically released anime, nor tolerate those who do this. (Is it so hard to atleast rent the anime from Netflix, etc... Leaving the DIVX logo on the video, can tempt me to boo the video rather publically.)

2. I will not use music that I don't own/paid for in some way. Itunes are acceptable as you pay for them.

3. I will not send a video to a small convention/contests that I'm not attending, without first checking/getting permission from the contest coordinator.

4. I will make all attempts to submit videos to smaller contests first, then big contests. If a video wins at a big contest, I will avoid sending it to a smaller contest. (Because it's just not fair, and simply trolling).

5. No matter how awsome my video is, I WILL NOT troll my video.

6. I will not bully my way into an AMV contest. (Sadly I still remember a contest where I watched two creators do this, and it disgusts me to this day).

7. Defend Yaoi AMV creators and their right to make Yaoi AMVs. Support Yaoi AMV creators whenever possiable.

If you suck as an editor, do the rules still apply?

Anyone is free whether to follow this rules or not, their level at AMV making doesn't matter. A person might be a bad, but still honorable AMV maker. On the other hand, the person might be good at this, but be a total bastard.

Well, never thought about that kind of rules, but you are free to follow any rules you want. One way or another, thank you very taking this seriously.

I don't know why, but I'll list the actual rules I follow:

1) Do what you want to do; your own opinion matters more than what anyone else thinks of you.
2) Fuck em if they can't take a joke.
3) Rule two still applies even if it wasn't a joke.

I wish more people took having a code of honor or morals in regards to AMVs abit more seriouslly. You'll find the older creators have more morals then the newer creators. Alot of the newer creators come in with a who gives a shit sort of attitude. While I know the older creators realize that the hobby is illegal and could be shut down by big media. That they don't want to risk upsetting the big media. To often I've talked to new creators who don't give a shit if they use downloaded footage, etc... They don't care if what they do will piss off big media, and could affect others. I've been told by new creators, they don't care, the big media could sue them, they have no money anyways to take. Not realizing that the big media can then come after others. They don't believe it can happen to them. They don't care about the community and just about their own stuff and self gratification.

/me doesn't want to bother with this debate as it happens SO OFTEN around here.

Loop up copyright law. Once you understand it then re-evaluate your question.

I know it is illegal to create AMVs because of copyright laws, but does that make us thieves?
