Blue has been my favorite color for a while so I just took the word "Cyan" and added the "na" to femme it up a little.

1) It just a given name sounds cool and is not really "borrowed" from anyone. I randomly came up with it, checked against Japanese dictionary, and sure enough it was a valid given name.

2) It's Japanese and therefore it appealed to my weaboo sensibilities of 9 years ago, yet it was also not a name anyone in the anime community would associate with a really well-known character, writer, person etc. - therefore, it stands out and people know that I'm THE Otohiko, not the Otohiko named after that other Otohiko guy

3) Briefly before I adopted it, I went by Otoko no Hito ("man" - literally "male person" - in Japanese), and Otohiko sort of sounds like a shortened form of it.

4) Minor influence on it was "Otohime", a Love Hina character (it's actually a surname in her case). I kinda like her, in part because she is incredibly spaced out most of the time. And so am I - soooo spaced out, it's not even funny. "Otohiko" is like, my masculine impression of that or something.

5) Kanji: Oto = "sound", "noise", "music"; Hiko = standard male name ending (means something like "lad"). So, "Sound Lad", "Noise Lad" or "Music Lad" - whichever you prefer - is totally an apt description for me.

Or something.

Lets see.

I was in Art Class in High school the teacher asked up front and said this.

" Okay does any one here have any alias' that they go by?"

My stupid self spoke up and said.

" Yes they call me Sanchez."

Thus the name began there.

LeapofFaithFate

I was into Fate/Stay Night when I picked up my username.
I would change my name, but everyone would still call me Leap/Jumpoffacliff/etc.

I'll have to agree with the masked psychiatrist in this case.

Personally, I prefer trogoOTOegocrat.

***

A comprehensive list of handles I otherwise ever went by:

Gosha, goshak, goshan, hashish, gohan (not related to DBZ character), goose, caterpillar, Chingachgook the Great Worm, egghead, The Russian, Sparky, Heptaparaparshinokh, Otoko no Hito, Otohiko, CCIP, Heinz Fischer, The Mayor of Crotchtown

Clearly of all of the above, I still prefer Otohiko :amv:

I like your name more now that I know its origin. The avatar's a nice touch too.

Btw, Oto, I can totally see the resemblance between you and Otohime.

Oh hmm, a comprehensive list! I'll add the ones I went by but no longer use.

Zstar, m07if (lolololhaxxornickname), Kitsune (prior to ever seeing Love Hina or meeting Kitsuner), hoshinokaze, (hoshinolamenobody)

I think Mayor of Crotchtown is more of a title, so maybe you can be "Otohiko no Crotchtown"

I was making my first email account one day after having seen an anime in Japanese for the first time (the Sailor Moon R movie) and those were the first two Japanese words I'd picked up. I put them together.

I've also gone as Arigatoumina and Arigatomyna. I was the only Arigatomina for a long while there. Some 13yr old has a facebook or something under that name now, so I'm no longer the only one. Kinda sucks. Not that it was an original name to begin with. I'm pretty sure I nabbed it first, though. ;p

Ah, and I've always gone by that. It's the only name I've ever used online and I've used it for everything from my ebay account to my fanfic name.

I'm the product of ignorance and weeabooism

Here's the abridged version:
Sanjuro was a name I picked for myself back when I was starting to get into anime...and when I joined my first forums I tried to make it sounds cooler by trying to look up "Sanjuro the demon hunter" with an English->Japanese dictionary.

Turned out that the result was too long for the forums, so I shortened it to Kariudo Sanjuro (kariudo = hunter...so Hunter Sanjuro still sounded cool enough.) Later, I joined a newer forum...so Sanjuro was still available and I took that.

When I got here, Sanjuro was taken...so I switched to Kariudo

I thought of it half-asleep one night in high school. Started off as my names on Tribes.

Sometimes I just shortened it to Pie Row.

I need a name for a role play game, in that moment I was totally freak out with FMA, but edward elric and fullmetal sempai was already taken :p, so I remember the first episode when they mention Icarus, that greek boy who get wax wings and burned them by trying reaching the sun, I changed a little bit and done, some years later I set it for this site too, because my first nick ever, was made for the org, it was Gabriel firangel, based on a manga story, where Gabriel(actually my real name), an exiled angel fight demons with the sacred sword that locks the eden garden, until he meet the boy fated to bring up the apocalipsis, that was a cool story XDDDD, but that was a tooo long nick :?
