then you get to catch up on normal life...time goes by. when you see what you finished your just to damn lazy to go throught the 2 hour process of putting together credits...
Or,that could just be me :|

I leave out credits sometimes just to annoy people and to see them make threads about why people don't have credits in their videos.

Why the hell not?

I do take pride when I see my videos are good enough for other people to want to try and feel the glory of having made them.

Whenever I make a video now I try to include the credits (or at least the title card) after the music has already started, and sync the words to the music somehow. Not only does it look cool, it prevents people from chopping off the beginning and putting their own title card on it

Then again they can steal your entire identity lol. The only answer is to ignore the crazyness. It doesn't matter anyway.

That being said Titles are good but not to defer intellectual property theft :/

I credit if I've put a lot of work into a video.

I don't credit short videos with relative low amount of work like MEP-tracks, ICs etc.

Credits are fun to make. I really like to make them. It's a short design part where you can add neat effects :o
Also I want to promote artists who give away their music for fair use. I really want to put in website, album name etc for them! That's important for me.

Bear with me. Typed this pretty fast so hopefully it's coherent enough =p

5 pages and as I expected not one reasonable argument for not embedding credits into the video in some way. The only argument FOR it is that you are not stupid and do not want to be caught up in any possible legal entanglements.

Of course this is probably a foreign concept to many. Even for those in the current AMV generation who agree that credit should be given to the original creators you will find they seem to be under the misunderstanding that they have control over how and where their efforts are accessed. If you release a video onto the internet you have now lost all control over that content. Yes someone could remove the credits anyway but why not take the 10 whole seconds it takes to type up a simple title card and put it at the end of the video? Common courtesy after all. I can understand reasons for not including your real name, your alias, and contact information. I see no reason to not be an honest thief about source materials though. Unlike AMVs aren't exactly warez but maybe they should be after all so nut up and show some pride in what you stole. Oh wait I keep seeing a lot of posts about how some AMV creators don't watch the stuff they use or care about "that anime crap". There may be a correlation between the decline in credits and the decline in creators who are real fans =p

trythil wrote:For me, it's a pride thing.
Specifically, I haven't ever taken real pride in the fact that I made AMVs: didn't start out that way, never really changed. I view it as something to be swept under the bed, a guilty pleasure that can't be excised. I do put my real name on other work, stuff that I can be proud of.

Did you always feel that way or is that your current state of mind with regards to the hobby? Also maybe it was a contest version but I'm pretty sure I saw an Escaflowne video you did that had credits at the end (simple title card). If you took no pride in these endeavors why submit to a contest? Why not request your name be removed and listed as anonymous during competition? Now if you are talking about "real life" and not the "anime scene" then I completely understand not using your real name (that's what aliases are meant to protect). I have always been of the mindset to keep fan stuff as far away as possible from one's social or professional life.

trythil wrote:I do not find it possible to be proud of something into which you have invested seven years and haven't won any official recognition. If things turned out differently then perhaps my actions re: this subject would be different

I'm conceited so obviously I would be quite different. Then again with regards to this hobby I won with the first stuff I ever sent to convention contests (the litmus test at that time period) so if I were to judge it's a bit of the pot calling the kettle black. Regardless of what a creator themselves thinks though I don't think you or I would disagree that in terms of either side of this philosophy it has little bearing on subsequent value of works after a creator dies. I'm speaking outside the scope of AMVs obviously but history is truly the ultimate litmus test for real works in the real world. Who is to say what might be viewed valuable one day in the future. There is the downside that history is written by the victors though. For myself and the record I take pride even in such amateur things. My personal philosophy on this is sort of If I couldn't I don't see why I ever would have made them.

trythil wrote:re: music and anime -- that is a valid concern, and I ensure that the musician and anime get credit in the video metadata, which is on this site.

True video metadata would be encapsulated into the video file itself. Relying on this site is nothing but a poor method of content management. Particularly when this sites relevance for the ultimate dissemination of AMV content is quite limited.

It will be more fun if I don't admit whether I'm being completely honest with this post or just trolling.

I thought the obvious arguments given here were pretty reasonable. They detract when you watch on loop (a comercial break every 3 minutes). They can detract from the video itself (better editing in the credits than in the video, silly credits on an melodramatic angstfest vid, amateur credits that make you wince and wonder how old the editor was to draw like a four year old, bizarre name that you're still thinking about when you should be appreciating the vid). They take up space (30 second amv, 2 minute credit sequence). They're redundant (for anyone who downloads videos from the org or any site that properly credits their sources).

There are plenty of good reasons not to add credits to the video. There aren't any reasons *to* add credits that can't be rendered moot by a little chopping of a vid-thief with vdub. Unless you're pushing full screen watermark-credits, that is.
