Editors who put no credits: Explain yourselves!

Postby Castor Troy » Sun Nov 15, 2009 11:25 pm

Maybe it's a personal preference, laziness, etc, but how come some of you don't put any contact info/credits in your videos?

I know Fluxmeister just puts his NHMK logo at the start of his videos without any contact info, but there's editors like jbone, Tsunami Jones, etc who don't put anything at all. Do you know how many editors claimed that they created Maboroshi's "Hero of the day" Dragonball video? Or Duane Johnson's "Particle Man" because they had no credits? Maybe the technology wasn't available at the time of their creation (hell, Particle Man was made in 1996 with 2-vcrs). In this age of booschack theft and kids thinking they can remove your credits and claim fame to your videos, nobody's safe.

Maybe it's understandable if you don't want a million people trying to contact you from a video, or if you don't use that site/email anymore, but if you made something, wouldn't you want to attach your name to it? I think there's people on booshack already claiming that they made TJ's TF2 video now. :(

Since the above members don't really post here anymore, what are your speculations on why they never put credits in their videos?

So what's keeping someone from just editing the credits off?

The thing that tends to bug me more sometimes is when the credits include the editor's name, the studio's name, on occasion maybe even the anime used, but not the music. Come on. Sometimes the audio used is obscure, and I often don't have the time to come back to the catalog page and see what's listed there, which makes it an inconvenience.

I've only tended to not put credits on things I'd submitted to MEPs, but that's generally just because I just upload the version I'd submitted and not a fancier version with credits (although I did use credits on the upload for my VG3 track). And because the MEP itself has the credits at the end if the person saw that.

I don't know about others, but I quit caring if I got credit or not. Half the times, I'm actively hoping that outside the org I don't get blame er, credit.

I liek making my credits. That's all.

They probably have no fun making them. So they don't.

I've only recently started adding credits to the video itself. For a long time, I've felt that most viewers just want to get straight to the main feature. I can get behind credits that add something interesting to the video though, which is why I began including extras starting with A Little Retrospect. Sometimes though it's hard to segue into a credits sequence from the main video. I guess my main point is I can see why people would leave extras out of their videos.

I used to do that but stopped for a number of reasons.

1. Most people don't care.
2. I don't have ownership over copyright footages or music.
3. I don't need internet fame.

I did not do credits initially because I did not have the technology available to make them not look like garbage, and more importantly because I had no need to become internet famous for doing this. If someone else wants to jack my videos and pretend they made them, that's fine; the music continues to get spread without me doing any further work, and they have to deal with the existential reality that they're popular not for creating something or for rearranging it, but for pretending to rearrange other people's creative output.

I started doing credits when the technology made it possible to make them look good, and more importantly because the music I was using was getting too obscure to release out into the wild without telling people what it was. The fact that I'm expected to add my own composition credit is a necessary evil; the ability to promote my friends' bands under trailer cards when I can't do it in the video directly is an unexpected bonus.

I make them if I they come out entertaining, otherwise it's a waste of time. Most people skip the credits anyway, so why putting another buncha secs for no reason? If it's text they want, there's plenty in the catalog page. They know who made the vid and its title from the filename, so it's not like it takes much to track the info down.

And then there are those people who don't put any credits in the vid and name it "1.mp4"

And it's the best instrumental of this year I have in my folder and I don't remember who made it.

Will be hell of a search for VCAs...

I do mood videos. Credits spoil the mood. I also have a no-frills approach to serious videos and I've no particular passion for asserting my creative credo.

The only times I do credits is when it's entertaining for me to do so.
