yeah I made one amv that probly costed me like 300 bucks right there lol but than I'll probly use a bunch of that footage on future things as well...

my total was just since the last thread, but out of since 1999 when I started, well... 3 computers (4 builds) Premiere 5.0, Ppro 1.5, AE CS1, + Anime would get me... about 5000 bucks. but again a lot of it (85% of computer expenses, I probably bought a lot more ram than I ever would have and splurged for multicore numerous times lol, and 50% of anime) I would have gotten anyway. Can't say it's a BAD hobby, just not a cheap one ^_^

I'm not sure I could honestly calculate this, but I would say well over $10,000 in just hardware. My VAIO laptop back in 2001 cost $3000 new. Then there's the matter of how any macs I own, which I run different aspects of editing/encoding/processing on, and all the windows PCS that came before, including Chibiusa, Usagi, Serenity, Hotaru I... If we start counting anything tangently related to AMVs like trips to AWA and Otakon and the amount of money spent on media and postage... A lot. An awful lot. More than I honestly want to think consider.

Now granted, I did make money on some of my projects. When I worked in politics, I was making about $1400/mo. Of course that was not enough to pay my bills, my debts, and keep up the hardware habit. So I didn't invest in all of it entirely for AMVs... I have now, of course, since I no longer edit professionally. The Macs, ironically enough, were all purchased after moving to Japan, so after I stopped being pro. *shrug*

not true... i've made most of my upgrade choices based on editing efficiency. when i start to feel like i need more speed, i buy new hardware. I also wouldn't purchase so much disk space. If i was a bigger gamer, then it would be a different story, but i'm not :P

Same here. Our second computer was bought for editing (It was time to retire the 1 gig bad boy and I was tired of vcr to vcr editing)

Of coarse knowing nothing about editing, except I needed to capture. I was assured this computer could capture. I'm sure the sales person didn't even know what capture meant >_< But I ended up with a really crappy free capture card....

Ya, everything in every computer I've owned, besides the 1 gig has been bought solely for editing.
