Do crappy animes deserve to be bought? even if you don't like it and only want to make an AMV?

Legaly, yes, all anime anyone watches despite quality should be bought.

would you buy a book you don't like? Woudl you buy a movie you don't like? Why would you buy an anime you don't like?

Now if you wanna make an AMV with that anime.. you should buy it simply because you appearently like it enough to use it in an amv :P

Yes. I bought that one really crappy Graduation spin-off anime. What was it called..... oh yes, Sailor Victory!

I really dislike it, but you know what, the trailer for it isn't half-bad and it would make a really nifty AMV despite its rather shoddy storyline and just plain... I don't know... obnoxiousness?

And I'm pretty sure very few people here have seen Sailor Victory, so I'd still be able to stick to my originality ideal. :D

There's quite a few other anime that I have purchased that I don't really like, but I think would think still make good AMVs. But I'm not going to mention them for fear people would think of stealing my original ideas.

I'm normally VERY cautions about what I purchase before I buy it, because if I'm not going to watch it maybe two or three times on my own volition, I shouldn't be buying it.

If I wanted to use a particular anime that I know I didn't like, I would try to rent it somewhere or try to find a friend that would let me borrow it. If I couldn't rent or borrow it then I'd have to resort to eBay to try and find some cheap DVDs of it...

But that doesn't sound very ethical...

I've paid for every source I've used for an amv (and those I had to borrow I paid for eventually). The way I see it is if I'm going to rip off someone elses work fo rmy own ends then the least I can do is give them some money for it in return.

Especially with music - cds are cheap.

Yep, same here. I've bought every CD I've used and pretty much maid for all the DVDs and LDs I've used...Only a few times do I rend DVDs when I need multiple sources. But usually after watching it I get to like it that I buy it anyway... No one said it's a cheap hobby

dude you probly have SOOO many Ideas you'll never get to em (I know I do) therefor will never see em get done, or by the time you do you'll have MORE ideas. So what if somebody else wins that award with your idea, sucks but what really sucks is if they REALLY screw up a good idea ;-p. but not ever seeing it is worse than anything so I wouldn't hesitate bringing it up.

I'm trying to decide if I should buy this Japan only anime ;-p cuz if I get it I wouldn't even be able to understand it.... but I REALLLY want Iketeru Futari - Idiot Boyfriend (see? no hesitation ;-p I doubt any of dees foos would take the idea anyway...) and She's got Skillz!

Almost the only time I even bother to buy DVDs is if its a series that I REALLY like or if its something that I want to use in a music video. In fact I've bought dvds that I could care less about (jungle de ikou) (manga entertainments release of end of eva) simply because I wanted them for amvs.
I would buy many more dvd's if I felt they were worth the money. But 90% of the anime dvds that I purchase, I feel like they are utter crap. It pisses me off that they release these things with errors that I find unforgivable (spelling errors in the subtitles? for gods sake you expect me to pay for it when you cant even freaking spell??!!) These days probably the main reason I even continue to purchase is for amv footage.

so you are saying that even if the anime was DBZ you would pay for it to make an AMV?

That would depend on many factors, the most important of which being how many episodes I would need. I certainly wouldn't buy all of DBZ (or even a complete season) for an amv. But if I could get what I needed on a few discs, then I would buy it.

That is somewhat true. Although, when I do put my mind to making AMVs, I can make them pretty quickly. (I made the first 4 of mine within a month. Of course, at that time I was using Windows Movie Maker)

I guess I might as well list some, since most people if they're discerning buyers (unlike myself) they will stay away from purchasing these.

Sailor Victory!
I'm thinking setting it to Spin me round (Like a record) by Dead or Alive

Sorceror on the Rocks
Juice by B'z

Earthian (Actually I like this one but mostly for perverse reasons only, the male members of the org would likely scream if they ever accidentally bought it and watched it. :D)
Several songs could match Earthian that deal with either angels or homosexuality, actually I think somebody already used it for the homosexuality bit so I'd probably just go for the angelic theme.
