By simple editing, you mean just knowing how to use the simple tools, cutting, fading, and speed as opposed to the more graphical ones such as clippings, flash strobing, and inverted/bleeding colors. Or the simple planning "This looks good with that" as opposed to the more selective planning "This flows better with the overall song and its surrounding scenes"? I thought you were refering to the former, which I do find easier to edit, and funner, but selective planning can take awhile.

Anyway, I agree that most people will be holding out for Cons before premiereing there AMV's online especially if they are planning to attend the Con. I mean its such a rush to see your work on the big screen in front of many other people who haven't seen it before, instead of a small screen which may or may not play the vid depending on codec types. It also gives the Con that Moviegoer feel to it, where you look at those voting tabs and see a creator you like with a new AMV that they'd been mentioning for awhile and your like, sweet. To see it before the Con would be like watching a downloaded upcoming movie before its out, although some would perfer to watch it first on the small screen instead of the large.
Although I know not everyone can make it to a Con, or afford to, to see these premiere's and in a way that is disappointing, but if you were thinking about going to a Con just because of something like that then you know the feeling. I think that this is something that Con's strive for anyway, as it helps them grow and lets us strech our creativity in something we love to do.. or just enjoy doing.
Not that I'm for withholding premiereing AMVs, I'll probably not wait till Acen2003 to release my next, although thats still up in the air (Since I'm going to be attending for sure). I'm just saying that it has more of an effect on people, especially if your well known (Not necessarily popular).
Anyway, those are my thoughts.

I believe that Animemusicvideos.org is in an AMV recession. No videos are being produced has of late because of all the multi-editor Projects going around. Because of these project nobody has time to make any of there own videos cause we get so tied up in everything else. Also everybody is hyped about Golden Donut, if its free hosting then make some videos to host, sure you already have some but we've seen them already. Another thing is nowaday people are all about effects and quick cuts, what happened to the days of simple editing. With all these effects heavy AMVs going around editors wanna do "that" and take longer to produce an AMV. So then there are no AMVs. I think people need to go back to the basics. Well thats my opinion anyway.

:o Blasphemy!

Just go to the search and check out the new videos, man. I'm up there. Of course, you're right about the special effects thing. I usually use simple editing but lately the songs I've been using needed stuff like flipping and inversion. . . Of course the org is in a depression of sorts, but that's because the economy is. AMVs need money. Espiecially if you don't have any DVD resources and refuse/can't download stuff. Therefore. . .Slump.

But there's alway's this.

AMVs, like all art, repeat themselves :P

The big thing right now is flashy effects, faster cuts, high energy songs, and tons of frill. I can't wait till the back to basics trend rolls around, and in my latest video that I'm working on, I'm trying hard to spark that trend ;P

I have a hard time agreeing with all this. I think that its true that the trends change, but I really dont think its been all that extreme. Most of the popular studios and creators are still working on the more basic ideas(IE SpPanda), or have moved to using less flashy devices (IE ErMaC.) I dont see that much, but then again, for some reason I tend to be relatively unatached to the actual AMV VIEWING part of the AMV scene; I like making them, and I like talking about them, but I dont see how so many people can make so many general statements about a comunity that isnt producing that many really popular works.

Id just really like some sort of justification (just a couple of "case in points") because I dont think Im watching the right videos.

I haven't done much cause I, one, just got around here a month ago and two, I sit in front of a computer 8 hours a day already. So when I get home I don't feel like sitting there for however many hours. There are two though that I've put off since I started making vids that I might finally get around to doing. Been lazy cause I'll have to set up my vcr to my video card and grab what I want cause I have the animes on vhs.

I think a large part of this "recession" is that a lot of good creators are simply fed up with AMV community BS. Who wants to spend hours slaving over an AMV, only to have some asshat say it sucks? And with all this obsession with "status" and making a "name" for oneself, people are probably trying to hard, and thus their work actually ends up worse because of it.

As for me, my own lack of output (4 non-project videos in the past two years) can be attributed to the fact that I'm just damn lazy, and videos are taking me longer to make. All I have planned right now is my DDR3 video and DDDR video...oh, and the miniAMV video...aside from that, I don't have any "private" videos in the works. No inspiration.
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

I think he means a "private" video as in his own project that he is working on.

Not actually that he sits there in front of Premiere in a house-coat with a glass of rum or brandy, sipping slowly as he watches the render bar move across the screen.
