Erm, that was quite unneccessary and unprovoked. :?

And hikix, what do you want them for? If it's for making AMVs I'd recommend you not make posts about it, people round here are horrified if you're not willing to pay for all the stuff you need. Couldn't you use a friends computer to rip your DVDs and get the clips that way? If you have any of the DVDs you need...

Cut and paste this for future use if you wish, people:

This is the "street bum" syndrome at work. Like when a person bugs someone for money on the street.

It's annoying to the person being bugged, because much of the time they either have a job/are clever enough/just lucky and know the right people to get their money, and someone asking for it for free, without offering anything in return, is a pain in the ass. The person asking for money usually gets one of the following:

1. Nothing
2. "Get a job, you bum" (real world possible circumstances not applying to my analogy)
3. MAYBE a piddly hand out.

And if you live in a city like mine, with a lot of street people, it becomes fucking annoying when you're pestered multiple times a day.

So apply this to the subject at hand, getting free clips. The analogy stays the same. The people being bothered have, dollars to donuts, either ripped their own footage from media they bought, know people who will do it for them (and THEM ALONE), or found that magic website of high quality anime footage that either doesn't exist in the real world or is a total pain in the ass to find and is in constant danger of being shut down for using too much bandwidth. Considering all this, it is no wonder that many of them are not inclined to share.

It is easiest, and best, to invest the time, money, and trouble involved in being able to rip and edit your own DVDs. Likely no one will help you with your clips "problem", and no one HAS to. Only YOU have the power to do so.

I don't think that was neccessary. This is very different from the real world. You don't instantly get talked through it when you become an AMV fan, many start blind and deaf. Yes, the information was there, no he didn't read it, and perhaps he is a bit wiser for it. But your 'analogy' was a bit much. It's not always 'easiest' to be able to rip your own DVDs.

What about a teenager without a job or a DVD drive? He needs to buy a DVD drive for his computer, and the selection of DVDs he wants. Perhaps the money he gets is already spent on having a social life, or buying things he can't download, and wants the hobby but can't afford it. Not everyone has these luxuries you seem to have...

He bought a social life instead of DVDs. AMV making IS my social life, my hobby ;O. I've invested money into it. Maybe he should take some money out of ricing up his ride or buying a eminem CD and get some DVDs(not actually implying that hixix does the above, or even has money for that even).

Let's flip it around, I have DVDs, but I also want to get my car working and have a social life :O, but with out paying for it? How's that going to work?

If he wants to use good footage, he gets off his ass and goes and gets the DVDs or, he once again, gets off his ass and learns how to pirate anime.

The problem is these people have no clue.
First is starts with anime.
Then it's what editor OMG ? Where do I get it? Kazaa don't work on my computer? Can't you just send it to me?
Wait this is two hard? Where's the easy buttons on this thing?
Can't you just tell me how to do that?
Whoa this file is so big? How do I make it smaller like totally?
Okay where do I put it? Who has FREE hosting for me?

Who actually made the AMV during that process?

Ok, first of all, maybe some people would rather have a REAL social life than an 'AMV making social life'? If he were to start taking money out of his social life and putting it into DVDs he may end up like these people, and I specifically said perhaps he was putting his money into things you can't download. You may have replaced your social life with AMV making and have pumped all of your money into ensuring you have the best range and quality of anime for your AMVs, and this person may want to keep his social life and or be unable to afford to heavily get into this hobby.

And so far he has asked none of these questions, and has failed to fit in with your stereotype. And even if he's been a burden to anyone really, people who come in here, read what he has to say, and then flame him for wasting their time, are hypocritical.

Flaming of the people who ask silly questions are protective measures to make the person THINK before they post.

Panda give me your paycheck since I'd like to use it for my REAL social life. I seem entitled to one.

My POINT was, I've choosen to do what I do with MY money, he has done what HE wants to do with HIS money.

If he so dearly wants to be a AMV maker he should be willing enough to spend money. If someone wants to race cars or fly RC airplanes or collect coins. What will they have to do? You can goto a race track and ask the people there to give you a car? You can't goto a airfield and ask someone to give you a RC plane, you can't walk into a coin store and ask for free coins?

Well then why should they suddenly have the right to come here and ask for free anime? You seem to think that he is ENTITLED to having a LIFE and ANIME :P(frankley the two do not mix). He's not entitled to jack shit, kay. I am not entitled to a free car, free house, free anything. Maybe since he has a "social life" and I do not, I should just give over my anime footage to him oh great one with a life.

Maybe if we did that then I should just walk up in line to him at a theatre with his girlfriend. Bug him to buy me a movie ticket and let me kiss his girlfriend, for he has spent his money on a life, rather then anime, but I should be entitled to FREE LIFE as he is entitled some how by your statements FREE ANIME because he has a LIFE.

Let's also not look over the actual technical aspects of getting him the anime? I am ripping DVDs right now. It's about 18GB for three DVDs? It's about ten hours of footage. It takes me about 30 minutes to get a DVD ready for ripping. It would take A LONG to do the actual encoding w/ IVTC, resizing, cropping & XviD encoding. Let's not forgot the actual time it takes to transfer these things and the fact that he'll probably have to convert the clips out to huffYUV using virtualdub and the fact that he problem doesn't know how to use virtualdub and you'd have to walk him through it.

Not being able to read a guide & purchase your anime or finding a way to get anime without bugging someon else to do all the work for you, shows that you're not dedicated in this hobby to be worthwhile member. :\
