Out of curiosity... what is a studio, exactly?

Postby SarahtheBoring » Sun Dec 01, 2002 12:06 am

...if this is more properly put under "Site Help" or something, sorry.

I've just been wondering - what is a studio exactly? I guess it varies from group to group, but what are they usually?

It's another way to add a name to yourself.

It's a Freudian thing. Makes you feel bigger.

Well, to be honest, when I created a studio name to use, I was just going with the crowd. I saw that a bunch of people, including the editor who is pretty much my role model, had studio names, and I thought it looked like a nifty idea. I came up with the name itself on accident (Eclipsing Saturn), but the idea to have a studio name at all was pretty much an exercise in the Lemming Complex. I've decided to keep it, though, just because I like the sound of it.

I also have plans to use the name professionally one day, but that's in the future.

I suppose I didn't really addres the question... argh.

I suppose a studio as it pertains to AMVs is essentially a way of naming the area that encompasses whatever editting equipment and materials you possess.

It's a fancy term for artistic types. It's also useful for "branding", and it also refers to a group of people working together for one artistic goal. Like a movie studio.

All I know is "Hypeodermic Studios" sounds a lot better than "Hypeodermic Entertainment" or "Hypeodermic Productions"

From personal experience I find that studio names are also sometimes easier to remember than somebody's general name, especially when trying to track down vids I've seen at cons. While I might not catch the creators name, I can usually remember a studio name through word association or something similar.

Unless it's a unique name and not some pop culture reference or such derivatives (e.g. DBZ, Matrix) :D

I think of it as like a seperation from another person or something. For example, if I were to say, oh look, it's ErMaC from More Than Toast, would I be correct? But if I say, for example, hey, it's ErMaC! Isn't he the only person in ErMaC Studios?

It's basically just a group of person(s) / people, seperated from all the other people out there.

Or at least that's how I look at it. :)

People are quicker to recognise a 'studio' name rather than an individual.
