Good point, but here's the problem:

I want reviews because I am a newb, and I hope that someone might have some suggestions for what to fix/work on/avoid. Thus I feel weird turning around and critiquing someone else's work - because what do I know? I'm a newb. It's kind of a bind.

You can always critique on creativity and emotional factors rather than the technical, because you have to have both to be really good.

And as far as sharing reviews...

If everyone just reviewed two or three vids for every one they made every vid made would have at least one or two reviews. I have only made one vid as of yet but have given 10 opinions (with many on backorder :P I'm kinda late on a few). But unfortunatly many people post their vid here expecting many opinions without giving anyone else opinions. Besides, out of the thousands of "members" only a handful (100, 200?) are what should be considered actuall members.

Alas, this is true of all places on the internet that become big. About 80-85% of all the people who sign up at the .org are doing it simply to get vids.
The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

and even at that they don't have to sign up or anything. Plus there's that darn curse of the noob, they get one post and *BAM* they're gone forever. Only 1 in 20 make it past the first post acording to 3 out of every 2 staticians :P

Trrrruuuue, but I still feel uneasy giving opinions on creativity/emotion, too. Knowing the AMV community inside and out is hard to do, and I wouldn't feel "right" giving people the what-for unless I knew my stuff to the last letter. I always, ALWAYS expect some smack-down like "What the hell do you think you're talking about, you clueless crappy-AMV-making newb?! Blah Blah did a video with this style in 1992 and it was BRILLIANT! Go back where you came from, infidel!!!" or "Who do you think you're talking to, you nobody?! I've won the XYZ Prize at BlahBlahCon three years running so STFU!!!!"

You should never get that for expressing an honest opinion and if anyone ever does just tells us and we'll give them the physical (foot meets ass) what-for. Besides just offer what you think could make it better and what you thought they did that made it good in the first place, you'll never get smacked down for that.

Heh there's always the option to suggest to have a check-box per video download link to allow only 'registered' org members to download them.

This should filter out a certain percentage of anonymous leechers which probably won't care about leaving feedback, plus it might help certain people with limited bandwidth too to allow a better chance for those who are more 'interested' to download their videos.

Would that be a popular feature to have around?

ah... the links should be available to anyone and everyone, even if they don't plan to give any feedback.

I agree, people aren't that sharing here, sure if they get a review they get one but otherwise ... Either they don't give it or they give you 10 line reviews which tell you nothing at all. Exceptions are people like MJ, they're really helpful.

I myself used to write useless crap reviews, I'm in the process of redoing them though before I continue, giving creators some real feedback from which they could learn, at least I hope I'm doing that. I tend to do one review a week and am planning on reopening my review site (I had one a year ago but renovation has taken longer than planned) so I hope I can help you guys with that....

Hmm....I'll give an Opinion but see as I'm too lazy, I won't even download the vids.

Okay, well. I haven't been up to date lately with any new vid's so I'll just wait till summer time to get back into the hobby. and to write some darn opinions that don't even seem to get read...

However I definitely agree that the touchy, "How dare you say bad things about my masterpiece" creators need to get their heads out of their asses. I've dealt with fragile egos in other arenas and it's really freaking annoying (writers can be really bad about this, in particular). Assuming the reviewer isn't just being a jerk ("U sux0r lololololollo!!!!1"), they're there to help you. Chill.

But I think I'm preaching to the converted here; just had to vent. ;)

that introversion for ya, gettin shinji with it ;-p. 'You get knocked down... but don't get up again... everybodys gonna knock ya down!' </end song> (including yourself) ya know the song, pissin the niiiight away.... ;-p

anyway you knock yourself down by telling yourself stuff like 'wadda I know I'm a newby?' than you just manufacture greif for yourself, and puts WAY to much stress on the l33t guys like BBT, Machine (not that I like Machine...) etc. 'cause I'm a newby' is not a good excuse. Maybe 'cuz I can't even start to make a vid that bad?' yes, but you lose confidance in yourself thinking like that.

:P nice to know you see it as a JOKE lolo ;-p

anyway I think I'm the opposit of you, and still in that newbish thing... I dun know how to improve on alot of the effects ppl put in their vid, I not that smat... so I just tell em how the vid made me feel :P   screw technicalitys... besides as a guy who wants reviews myself but doesn't wanna work for it I don't exactly want opinions on technicalitys (I work for that, Klinky and Panda on AIM ;-p they're big helps long as you catch em on a good day...) I just wanna know you watched it and like to see scores  I keep that in mind when I review... but if I was to do opinion exchange reviews than maybe I would think differently.

I no do OEx cuz I can't watch a vid of series' I've not seen. It changes the feel of the vid and I don't think that's how it's intended... less of coarse it's obvious to me after I watch it like Bogosort's Hubba Hubba Zoot Zoot... but vids like Kururin's 'Over My Head' SO puts off a different feel when you know whats goin on -_- and it's generally funner that way! ;-p

I'd have to come up with a name like gamefags for this place... I like the way it is now, like I say at gamfags, 'only idiots expect answers to thier questions' (sort of a play on words with bad teachers ;-p) so if you EXPECT to be reviewed (answered etc.) your being idiotic.

I get feedback on like 30 out of the 100 vids I've reviewed (plus one email feedback!! THAT one was cool... but really you don't need to do that ;-p)

When you don't get feedback (even 'thx') that's when you don't figure it got read... also don't expect to get feedback on vids by 'dead' artists like Kevin Caldwell or any of the other Proxy ppl I leave reviews just in case but I usually don't put much in em. Also it used to be that reviews for vids that already have alot goes unnoticed unless (like on Phades) you say something contraversial or (like Bogosort) you tell em 'check your reviews dildo!!' ;-p (put a j/k at the end!) but NOW that Phade put a timeline thing for your reviews as long as you sign in you should read it...
