Catalogue for AMVs?

Postby Giton » Wed Jul 10, 2002 7:21 am

I checked almost all the movie catalogues out there, but i didn't find a single one that's capable of listing or comparing music videos or AMVs in a proper way...

And now my question:
Does somebody have or know of a program that get video information directly from cd or folders, lets you edit the lists manually and is able to compare videos in list with videos in other lists and/or folders by name, size. resolution etc. ?

Or do i still have to stick to MS access databases?

For the AMV Archive I've just been using the Find command. It may not be the best solution but is alot faster that flipping through 35gigs of AMVs by hand when trying to find a particular AMV creator, song, or anime.

May go well if you have your AMV collection on HDD.
But mine is stored on ~120 CDs by now ;)

And using 100 gigs of HDD space just for AMVs is kind of waste...

PS: Don't call me leech - I'm more of a fanatic (watched almost every AMV)

There's irony in this post somewhere... ^-^

In theory, this site is the catelougue of all AMVs.

What WOULD be interesting would be something like GoodNES, where a program( with a constantly updating database), combs through a directory and gives you a list of what you have, and it checks off files based on file size and crc. Unfortunately, CRC's for videos take forever since they're relatively big, but if you want to leave it on for an hour it can probably do it :)

I think what we're discussing is a catalog for your personal AMV collection. I have about 25 discs worth (which I thought was a fair amount until Giton mentioned he had 100 :? ) and when you want to watch a particular one, it can be tricky to find.

I have two printouts of all my AMVs: one sorted by anime used, the other sorted by disc. It seems to work fairly well.

Thx @ Rebus

Hope those programms will make it lot easier to get an overview on my collection...

@candre: Don't get upset :) I'm providing half the city here with AMV and that's the reason why i decided once to get ALL the AMVs out there!
Not only the ones I like.
But 25 CDs is also a lot of stuff...

Actually, an AMV-specific program could work a little like MAME.

MAME, if I remember correctly, has a list of all the available games that it can emulate and all you do is add your rom or whatever and that gets linked to the database.

We have a database here. If it could be exported every once in a while then it could store all the video information and then all you do is link the information about where you have said file stored, just like MAME.

You could even write it so it accessed the org automatically too if you were clever, so you'd always have up to date video information.

thats not a bad idea. now all we need is someone to program it.

I know that this thread is a bit old, but I'd never miss a chance to advertise for this piece of software I made (shameless) :D :

http://www.mp3db.mp3.ms/english

This is an application made to have a catalog of your CDs, Hard Drives and Lan Drives. It was initially made to catalog mp3s, but it now works fine with video files...
I actually use it for my AMV CDs...you might want to give it a try, it's free and open source 8)
