A question on what's allowed here...

Postby Star_Chan » Sat Nov 12, 2005 7:39 pm

First off, could I just say I'm sorry if I've posted this in the wrong forum! This is the first time I've used the forums so I'm a little lost...

I was reading through the FAQ and it says that only videos made from anime are allowed here. However, I make Lord of the Rings ones, but they're actually hand-drawn anime style ones, so I was wondering if these are allowed here on AMV, even though it's not technically an anime...

Thanks for your time, and any help would be greatly appreciated!

So, it's allowed then, yes? Because it's animation?

^.^' Sorry, I'm just a little confused with the site...

Well i beg to differ on that one there was the hand drawn video that won in the veiwers choice awards last year and it is still on the site so you are better to question this with one of the admins.

original animation inspired by anime is also allowed. That means something you drew yourself. Otherwise its animation from japan and nothing els.

Who drew the LoTR animation? She didn't say who made it. If it's hand-drawn, it's not an official cartoon, it's fan-animated. Even if the characters are based on a non-anime storyline, they're bound to be more 'anime-styled' than some of the stick-figure 'original animation' vids we have here.

If you're talking about those Ralph Bakshi cartoons then it's no. If it's the Rankin Bass er... stuff, then no. If you're talking about the recent live action Peter Jackson epic, then no.

So, unless Lord of the Rings has been re-animated by a japanese animation company, then..... no.

If you make Bakshi videos I'm going to have to, well, make the O_o face for about ten seconds before RUNNING IN FEAR. ;)

Anyway, IMO that'd fall under the purview of Western-fandom videos even though it is animated. Since LotR fans at large know more about the subject matter than J. Random Otaku, I think you'd do fine with them even if the form is different. There's a lot of Jackson-version LotR video makers around who would probably be cool with it. I'm guessin'. All I know of is the "vidder" mailing list on Yahoo and this community if you're on the Livejournal system.

Good luck!

also if it's mixed with anime it's allowed. JAPanime, not Korean animation. Game CGs are considered anime such as FF and the Final Fantasy movies (I thought only AC, but I suppose both...) doubt pc game cgs will be aloud though (without prior consent).

I think it's allowed if they drew it themselves though.

Most of the hand-drawn videos I've seen here were either based on anime (Greed vs. Envy), anime-styled (Once Upon a Time at the Bus-stop) or meta-AMVs about the community. They have to draw a line somewhere. Best of luck and all, but I don't think this is the right place for it regardless.
