A funny little tidbit

Postby arzuro » Sat Nov 05, 2005 10:34 pm

I wanted to show my cousin my new avatar, so I linked him to this forum. The first and only thing he said was

What, anime music videos? Man I hate those things. Whenever I search for music videos I just get dozens of weird anime videos.

I know this is going to generate some heat since it's me posting, but I think it might be refreshing to hear a total outsider talk about an aspect of amv's people probably don't think about much - and what the heck, this is my first day here, after all, as an active poster. Even though I don't particularily feel like I belong, I can't help but smile a little defiant smile when I think about that comment.

So people will get angry why? That's like announcing My friend says anime is just stupid cartoons and thinks so no matter what I show him.

I totally agree. They don't understand and won't try to understand.

No, don't you see? He's been looking for, any example will do, the original video to some Rammstein song, but didn't end up finding it cause the search was totally clogged by countless anime music videos using Rammstein.

They don't understand and don't want to understand is an awfully biggotish way of saying that tastes are different, sorry. There is no mystical secret knowledge that you need to appreciate anime. Also I have found that non "otakus" will appreciate a good anime series just like anime nut, if you just pick the series carefully.

I remember last time a non-anime-watching friend walked in on me when I was finishing up an AMV last year; he was actually really impressed, and demanded to see my other AMVs. It didn't make him suddenly interested in anime or anything, but he was very curious about the creative drive behind it all and seemed to appreciate it on a level that many of these "otaku" (who see AMVs as neccesarily fanworks) never could.

That's not what I said. I said they don't like it. That doesn't mean they don't understand. They tried it out and didn't like it. It happens. I tried football and don't like it. I even tried it a few times in different places to see if one place just wasn't good. All that came was I can apreciate how hard the people who play it try/work. I still don't like it though.

Well, I get sick of looking up information on animals and getting porno sites. Finding what you're looking for on the internet can be an art. Maybe he just needs to refine his searching methods.

As for people not liking AMVs, who the heck cares? There's lots of things that I don't like that other people love, not everyone can like the same thing it's just not how the world works.

Ditto. Mom mom and friends love my AMVs even though they aren't into anime themselves.

I was actually refering to what prettysoldiersailormoon said.. it's part of your quote right there you know. We seem to have gotten off on the wrong foot, I'm not opposed to you as a person at all, just to some of the things you said. There's no need for you to think that every negative thing I say is directed at you.

I didn't post this with the intention of suggesting that amv's should disappear from the net so it would be easier to find music videos. I posted it cause I find it funny how somone is displeased with amvs because they affect him in a way I would have never imagined.

It's again back to Stace's porno/animal scenario... there are certain things that are saturating the internet now (or just about any open market) and it's become a useful skill in recent times to be able to discern that which you are truly looking for...

It is frustrating, that is a fact, but one needs to be go beyond these to really find that diamond in the rough which they are looking for... a friend of mine is one of the best internet hounds I've ever known... you ask him to find an obscure title or file and he'll get it, in full quality with every assisting documentation about it...

Certainly it's the same with AMVs in this site... but the search tool is awesome :P

None of this has anything to do with what this thread was supposed to be about, but this is a good topic also. So let's talk about this then. Saying that there are people who are good at crawling through the muck isn't a terribly good excuse for those who create the bog.

Of course not, haha... though, completely off topic, this thread might get locked or moved since it's not really belonging in this forum section :P

The thing is though, the internet is saturated beynd measure with information and things... and it's just getting more and more that way. In reality it's not going to get better, and nobody is really even thinking of making it better...

. . . O. K.

So basically what you are getting at with that statement is that people should stop making AMVs so that your friend can find regular music videos more easily?

Fat chance that's happening... (funny saying that, you'd expect that having a fat chance means you'll get a big chance)...

With the music industry being ripped off of their millions of dollars because of pirating, it's more a likely thing to happen that the actual normal music videos (which cost significant amounts of money) will end up being even less common than actually AMVs (which cost little to make, relatively speaking).

I don't know what this guy is saying. It seems like he starts making mountains out of molehills.. has to question such insignificant details that most people don't care about.. and then goes into great deal about something as if he cares about every little aspect of every little thing.. then always has to explain himself over and over.. get a few people confused.. and then make a molehill out of a mountain. A very interesting character if I do say so myself.. That's just my observation.. Your looking waay too deep into things arzuro.. But that's just my opinion.. don't take offense to it.[/nonsense rambling]
