obey the Saget.

Actually, I love Tommy's bumpers, along with Hypeodermics', because they are the same or very similar for every vid of theirs you download.

Ick, I've gotta disagree with ya' :P

I always see it as somewhat "cheating" when people, during the beginning of the song that they're DOING a video to, put in things like the artist, song, and the footage they're using (like, "Using footage from TRIGUN"... no shit, I can SEE that it's Trigun!"). If you're using a song to do a video, why waste part of that song telling us what song it is?! Heh.

I just find that it heavily distracts from the story and mood of the video if I've got some text during the song telling me what I'm watching. I can find out for myself what it is I'm watching and listening to :P

There's still some people who won't know it's Trigun... and if you like the music, you'll be glad to see its title somewhere .

It's surely distracting from the video but the only important point of that part IS the text. And you can do very cool things with it. Look at "Eden", using Trigun : one of the best part is, for me, when the text "Trigun" appears.

I personally like to just put my bumpers at the end of the video, where I then say the anime and song used, and then my studio name. If people already know this information and don't want to watch the bumper, then they can easily just stop the video before the bumper plays. I find this much better than having to skip past a twenty second bumper to get to the video.

Even though these bumpers are often interesting to watch for the first time around, I think it's frustrating to have to watch a bumper you've seen twenty times already each time you want to watch the video over.

But it's not a bumber then...

I do both : integrated credits in the beginning (studio, anime and song) AND a pic at the end showing my nick, e-mail, a date and "Belgium" (since I'm belgian).

I know this is a lot but I try not to make it annoying by really integrating it as in "Eden".

It's not the length that matters, it's what's in the length.

this video has exactly what your talking about... What Lather has in mind (I think) is those little translucent blocks of text in the corner. not a 'cheat' at all (though a little harder on the eyes than a plain black on white or vica versa). My vid btw ;-p...

anyway only thing I absolutely hate is when there's NO bumper. Have some respect! You didn't buy the copyright so least you can do is represent... anyway... ;-p ignore the goody goody in the corner ;-p.

I personally like bumpers, but not too long ones. I usually put a short black-white bumper in the beginning (with my studio, my name, and maybe the title of the video), and in the outro I say what anime, music, and such stuff. Also after the video, you can do whatever magical bumpers you want, cause then the viewer always can hit stop.

I think NHMK does it very good. Like in "Souls of Rage and Sorrow" where it counts down 2-3 sec (like in old movies, before they start, don't know how it's called in proper english :? ), and then just black and white short bumpers. Also he uses another music for the bumpers, which is also cool.

hmm... well, i've used text before in my vids. for Random Acts of Violence, i used a 6 second text clip to create a mood without telling exactly what the vid was going to show. another one i did as an intro to anime had scrolling text in various parts. there's no discernable concrete way to use it all the time. just experiment and see what you find entertaining.

I'm not a huge fan of huge intros

But that's not what I consider MTV-style, if your credits are just on a black screen; I'm talking about having the credits dissolve on when the video first starts.

The only time I might consider otherwise is if the song's lyrics start right up from the get-go, and have chance of taking attention from a sight gag or good edit at that point.

My studio uses a black screen with a big logo on the left and all the info on the right. That fades in and back out again in roughly 6 seconds, then we have a spoiler warning (if neccessary) that lasts about 3 seconds. Our first video (my friend's) also had a soundbite over the logo/info screen. It was supposed to be funny, but I didn't hear anyone at the con laugh :( . For my bumper I'm considering either not using sound or perhaps sticking with something that's just an ambiance bit. I have lots of instrumental music, so I'm sure I can find something interesting.

I tend to do whatever I think works at the time. My last two had bumpers, the one before didnt (although I did plan a funky opening 8 frames that I coulnt get to look right).

It just depends on whether I think the song has a natural space for it.
