Change the DMCA

Postby Zarxrax » Fri Oct 28, 2005 7:31 am

As this topic applies to the AMV community, as many of us are legally unable to rip our legally purchased DVDs because of the DMCA (or even WATCH them, in some cases), I decided to post this here.

According to this Slashdot article,
CowboyNeal wrote:The United States Copyright office begins its required review of the effects of the anti-circumvention portions of the Digital Millenium Copyright Act on November 2nd. This review period lasts until December 1, 2005. They will be accepting your well-thought-out opinions on the web and by mail. If you're reasonably ticked that you can't legally get around encrypted files to get at the media you've bought, start writing a coherent stance for the USCO today.

You can let your opinion be known to the government by posting here (http://www.copyright.gov/1201/comment_forms/index.html) after November 2.

If they change it, it could be good for people like us, but bad for the ecomny. people could copy DVD's and Games much easier.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

It won't be any worse on the economy. People already copy dvds left and right. Do you honestly think the current laws are stopping ANYONE? This would merely DE-criminalize many of us for doing perfectly legitimate things.

Yay! :D

This sounds great that they are doing this. Its just plain moronic that ripping DVD's for backup and for AMV's is illegal. I will have to write something to them. :)

I know may be slightly off hand, but here's something that caught my eye while browsing BBC today...

US youths use internet to create

Nearly one in five who use the net said they used other people's images, audio or text to help make their own creations.

Studies show that we're not [the only] freaks, eh

Appeal to them for the sake of our creative youth, etc.!

It's one of the few things that stuck with me from the many, many Art History lectures I endured. That, and the prof had a thing for Donatello's David (something about fondling it, if I remember correctly).
