Buying the DVD after seen an AMV?

Postby Esrhan » Thu Oct 27, 2005 8:39 am

Prologue:I have to admit that after watching Ding Dong by Sivis, I went out and bought the DVD of the anime.

Isn't this actually one of the hidden contributions an anime music video can do in it's legally un-certain position? Sometimes an anime music video can do a lot more than any official trailer out there could ever do, but since this is the internet, I bet this kind of reactioin doesn't happen too often here. Not to mention a lot of the popular titles are already owned when searching for specific music videos.

What I'd like to discuss is how often, or whom here have watched an anime music video and then decided to buy the DVD of the specific anime it was made with? A poll would indeed work nicely here, but I see no option for one.

I've purchased tons of dvd's based on AMV's. One off the top of my head that I know many other people have also bought based on an AMV is the Memories DVD.

But even before the DVD's come out I think AMV's spread a huge deal of awareness for new shows. One example: I wouldn't be surprised if tons of Naruto fans first learned of the show through AMV, and will probably buy dvd's when it comes out here.

Same here... if not for AMVs, I wouldn't even be into anime anymore. AMVs keeps me buying stuff.

Yeah, I usually just buy new anime for amvs. :P

Who actually watches anime for enjoyment anymore? Oh yeah, any fan who doesn't make amvs.

I used to constanstly have people yelling at me, saying "Damn you for making your Utena movie AMV! That video tricked me into buying the movie, which I ended up hating!" Well, in my defense, I loved the Utena movie :P
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

I ended up getting Metal Fighter Miku after Flux's MM1 Megaman video and I hated it. :P

Like most everyone here, far more times than I can count. Though these days I'm far more likely to simply toss the series on my GreenCine queue and watch it via them than to buy it. These days it's rare for me to buy an anime DVD that a) I don't plan on using for an AMV already or b) is dirt cheap (see: ADV's last few sales).

I had to get Fruits Basket, Rahxephon, Madlax, Beyond the clouds [place promised], and the X series after watching amvs of them because they looked interesting and I also buy more anime so I can make more music videos but that doesn't mean I don't like watching them. I love watching anime still.

I haven't bought an anime in the past 4 years without first seeing it in an AMV that made me laugh. 8-)

Hmm...Well I know that I used to hate Naruto due to it's annoying cosplayers at all cons until I saw this one Amv but saddly I don't know who made it. And now I have to watch naruto every time I see an amv for it...which is alot.

Y'know, it's funny, since I was just thinking earlier that RahXephon was probably the first anime I've truly enjoyed just watching in a long while. I mean, yeah, I already have ideas of what I want to do with it, and it is an example of something I found through AMVs (unless my memories of seeing it at Best Buy and wanting to watch it back in 2003 happened before I saw the DE-SIRE video), but I actually did primarily watch it for enjoyment once I got past the first few episodes.

I still enjoy watching anime. I'm new to making AMVs, though; maybe it takes a while for the cynicism to kick in. :P

This AMV inspired my go and buy Shamanic Princess. I'd seen the series before and enjoyed it, but was still undecided about whether to purchase the anime. The video gave me a 'push' to go out and buy it.

Soooo many series i have bought just for footage. I have probobly seen 90% of the anime i have and hear 50% of it. I dont need no sound when im editing , atleast not from the show.

But im with every one else, i would be out if i wasnt making videos. i would maybe have like 2 series, anything else could be netflixed.
