Beo, you're just happy because you made what you feel is the best video of your life. I think it's been pretty even throughout the past couple years. You people just haven't been watching the right editors.

It's the pure ecstasy of the moment, everyone of us knows that feeling :P

Seriously I think that you can enjoy a lot of different AMV types if you're in it with your emotional state, otherwise you would probably consider the best videos the worst.

So but yeah, Beo's still right, a whole lot of good videos this year 8-)

While I have released my big video this year, and it is a factor in my ruling (yes its a ruling), the biggest reason I have for making that statment is that the editors I don't like at all are starting to make better videos.

It seems by and large, the audience has moved past being fooled by AWFUL effects and will now only settle for at least MODERATELY TASTEFUL effects. The AWA winners were the best crop of winners I've seen in 4 years of AWA. Prominent editors that I had completely written as crap seem to be experimenting and stretching themselves, which is resulting in awesome stuff.

Of course every year would look stellar if all you do is watch Fluxmeister. But I feel there is a definite improvment in what the audience expects and therefor, what creators will create.

2005 seems a bit better than 2004, but I personally think 2003 and 2001 were much better, but that's just my opinion.

I don't cater to all this con-talk. I have nothing to with any cons to date. Maybe I'll enter something someday, just so you noiks will shut up about shitty vids winning all the time. :D

Seeing the videos at cons inspires me to improve as much as D/Ling the ones posted here daily. I get to see the wide range of quality videos from romance, comedy, drama, etc. and the crowd reactions to them. It really is cool to see one's video being screened in front of hundreds if not thousands.

Of course the AMVs are better this year! This year was the year I didn't make anything!

... Oh, wait...

On a serious note, though, all the shitty videos are being uploaded to sheezyart, and completely bypassing the .org. Blame/applaud of that.

Have you ever been to a con AMV screening? It's nice seeing AMVs on the big screen with a crowd. Gibberishy gook and all.

It sure as hell is! I mean, when that Bleach + Retro Ghostbusters remix anime/song combo came on at JACON, people were like "ZOMG!!BESTAMVEVAR!!" and I think there were about 7 edits. It's only awesome when you see something worth your time. And the only AMVs worth your time are the winners.

I don't see any reason for me to spend hundreds of dollars to go to a convention and get close to a mass of smelly fanatics "ooh-ing and aah-ing" at clips of music mixed with cartoons.

I don't know about videos in general getting better (better = more enjoyable), but effects seem to be getting more necessary. Just glancing around the big con vids being announced, it's 'effects or bust'. This trend has been going since I joined, though, so it's only natural that as effects become more necessary, some people get better at implimenting them.

So as far as 'good = well used effects', yes, there is a marked increase in 'good' videos.

But videos in general aren't getting 'better' (better = more enjoyable). At least not for me. I've downloaded fewer vids this year than any year since I joined, with the few I did get being very well made but not really all that interesting to me. I can only think of 4 vid this year that I loved watching (not including vids made last year that I didn't watch till this year).
