How do you decide?

Postby prettysoldiersailormoon » Mon Sep 12, 2005 11:20 am

Let's say you are a HUGE fan of this one anime (me, Sailor Moon) and you are hell-bent on downloading every video with that anime. Yet, there are many videos set to the same song. Is there a way of deciding which one to get without having to download them all and watch them? Or do you people just think I'm crazy? 8-)

I'll answer my own question. I am crazy. I just downloaded 4 Sailor Moon videos to Linkin Park-In the End. Now I'll watch them all and decide which one I like the best. Oh and I'm talking about videos that have just that one anime in it. Am I talking to myself here?

If you are hell-bent on getting every single one, then doesnt just choosing a single one go against that idea?

There you go, with that wacky logic-thingy and literal interpretation again...

I usually go with eithe the star rating, or OP score.

If it's an editor that I recognize, that helps too.

If you just want a collection of all the Sailor Moon videos you like you really can only download them all and erase the ones you don't like. Still that would take forever. Madbunny's advice to go with the star rating or op score could significantly decrease your dowload time.

Also you shouldn't just look at vids with sailor moon as the only source. You could miss out on some wicked SM AMV's like DokiDoki's Senshi on Spring, for example.

If I were looking for videos of a specific anime that happened to have as many videos as SM does, I'd probably use the Super Search and filter by star rating (because I find the star rating to usually be a truer indicator than opinions).

I'm not a fan of popular anime.

I will not try to cure your madness, but here is what I do :

sometimes I like a song, so I will download from 5 to 20 amvs realized with that song.
sometimes I like an anime , so I will download from 5 to 20 amvs realized with that anime.
sometimes I like a musical artist, so I will download from 5 to 20 amvs realized with a song of that artist.
sometimes I like a amv artist, so I will download from 5 to 20 amvs realized by that artist.

then I watch every amvs I downloaded, I give the stars everyone deserves, and I erase everything on my computer in order not to crash it with the 5000 amvs on the memory.
this way I have been able to discover, lucky me, many diamonds (5% of diamond, 50% of average quality, and 45% of amvs obviously realized by brain-damaged and tasteless subhumans).
5% is worth the effort.

I'm such a packrat, I love to keep everything! But thanks for the advice everyone! Especially noiZ from Zion! Maybe I should do that.

I was like that for a little while, with another show. It didn't last long; I couldn't keep up. Meh.

How do you choose? Star score, song choice, theme... I read the description, and if it doesn't look idiotic it has a pretty good shot with me. And sometimes I'll randomly download things that don't look very promising out of curiosity.

As for space, I burn everything off onto CD when it gets beyond a gig or two. Separated into Action/Serious and Upbeat/Comedy. Then it gets to be a problem of "I have this stack of unlabeled CDs" and not "my hard drive is full of other people's videos again."

That's what I do. I don't usually bother checking score, but sometimes number of opinions. So, first I read the descriptions, because usually those who put thought into the descriptions also put thought into the video. If I can't choose just from descriptions, I pick the one with the highest number of opinions, regardless of score.

Thanks to everyone for their help. I hope no one took me seriously. I mean yes I'd like to see everyone's perspective on Sailor Moon and eventually see my fair share of Sailor Moon amv's. But I guess I should have put haha at the end of my post.

I...never did this. o__O

I did used to download videos when I saw what anime and song they used and was like "ooo cool I gotta watch this!" but now I pay all my attention to ratings and crap...how shitty, it was so much better when I didn't do that. :(
