Macintosh, this computers are -As I heard- initially born exactly for Video Editing, they so should be the most of the most in this category. Sadly, my first contact with them is been awful and so until now I'm quite happy with what I have, so a normal Tower PC with the OS by Microsoft. But, what I would ask here is.. Do you have any example of an Amv made with a macintosh? There are Apple's users in this site? :O :)

there are a few editors who use macs... Brad Demos uses one for his editing.
my personal experience with using a mac to editis limited only to Premiere 6.5. i very much prefer using my PC over the mac. i have never used final cut pro so i don't know what thats like. but if i had to choose one or the other, i would go with the PC because i know how to use the software. Are macs better for video editing? is some regaurds, sure. but i'll use my PC over a mac anyday.

I wouldn't say ones better than the other, especially for AMV's it's the creator not the software that matters.

The reason people say Final Cut is better is because it is more often used professionaly as a video editor.

well I started with Adobe Premier for windows and went on to a Mac with Final Cut. Can't say one is deffinately better, as its virtually impossible to do a side by side of videos and say "this is Premiere and this is Final Cut". I like the way Final Cut is laid out and I like its work flow better than Premiere, but thats me.

Choose what ever program you are the most comfrotable with.

Its like Charcoal and Pencil, just a medium.

I use a Mac, and my last four videos I used my Mac for it. Since making AMVs are done more on PCs there are more things for it. For example HufYUV, AVIsynth, and VirtualDub and things like that.

I-Movie wasn't so bad. Like WMM, only 3x better.

I just hate having one mouse button to click :(

You work with what you've got.

In my experience, if you put the same amount of money into a PC as compared to the cost of a Mac, you get pretty much the same thing. So far as I know, most of the Adobe products are mac/pc compatible (have to check my boxes..) FCP look a lot like Premiere/Vegas/Ulead/etc.. so if you can use one video editor, and know how to work a help file you'll be alright.

As far as I know all of Red Wolf's videos are made on a mac. He helped write a guide at one point and works as a mac techie so I doubt he would ever use a PC for amv'ing.

Well, no, it's not. There are significant techical issues involved. Since Adobe has abandoned the Mac as their program of choice, Premiere Pro is Windows-only.

Also, those neat progs, like AVISynth, VDubMod, and more are (at current) Windows-only, although AVS may see a Linux port.

Mac editing also encourages QuickTime, which is a pain on any OS but Mac - a not insignificant downside.

I personally hated editing with Final Cut Pro when I used it in school last semester. Maybe it's just because I'm used to using Premiere 6.5, but FCP was much more cumbersome, IMO. The interface and some of the other little things very much put me in the mindset of Magix though. Not to mention that I hate the mice that comes with those things. Thankfully, the USB optical mouse that I've got works just fine when I use it with my mom's iBook.

I've used a Mac for everything I've done. The reason Final Cut Pro is used more in the professional world is that it is pretty damned great when cutting a feature project, whether it be pure HD or a 35mm for which you'll need an EDL. It is simply more flexible and has better options for the professional world.

You couldn't pay me to edit on one.

Well unless it was more than San Fransisco minimum wage.

Technically speaking, editing should be better in a Mac and *should* yield better results comparing it to a PC with similar specs. The reason for this, if I recall my "Mac 101" is in the bus size which is better in a Mac (a PC has been made to be much more general purpose), and number crunching is in the process better. Video editing and encoding, essentially is a number crunching exercise, and apparently Macs are just better in this regard (think G5).

Well, that's my input to the argument, but as to whether the AMVs coming out of Macs are better, I wouldn't know Jack Schitt. People already said it, it's all in the creators imaginative invention that you can make comparisons on.
