Technically it's not against the "rules"...but it is highly frowned upon...
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

Technically, no.

But it's taboo. Possibly to the point of being banned.

I suppose you can do it anyway, though, if you like instigating forum flame-fests.

If you really want to do it, I suggest you get permission from whoever made the AMV first. A lot of people don't seem to like it when their edits are swiped without their having been contacted about it.

at the absolute very least, supply your source in the creator comments once you upload it. For the record, such video's don't score well.

If you don't upload them, it doesn't really matter. You could put naked pictures of your mom in them.

What makes a video "yours'' has been a topic of fairly contentious debate on this site for a while. If you are just looking for footage, I'm sure you could find it elsewhere *cough* downloads *cough*, if it's certain effects, then you are likely to run into a lot more friction. Think about it, if something is hard for you to do, or to learn to do; it was probably hard for the person that made the video you are using as well. What you are taking from them isn't clips, but 'effort' and 'time' that they spent learning how to do it. It's like when you work, and some random guy on the street gets a cut of your paycheck.

To answer your question: people will hate you for it.

If he did that, I certainly want the video uploaded now! :D

He can steal clips from all my videos for that!

i don't quite understand what devilmaykickass said, but reffering to madbunny's reply... i can understand it being theft if if someone used like some really cool effects like in http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=18524 i can understand that but say someone's video had a wicked awsome clip of say... "Trigun" and they really liked it and decided to use it in thier own anime would thats still be consitered stealing someone's effort?

uhh??? yea... its all considered stealing... and the dead horse is beaten...

if no one can tell you are stealing though then yea... no one will probably care... where as if you see a specific effect from another video that you know all too well frankensteined into someone elses video, then yea... that will probably piss a few people off..

but if you make it so no one can tell then no one will know...

people wont like it either way... DVDs are your friend

I like watching Eternal Damnation with different songs and worse encoding than the original.
I have sinned. I made a video I wanted to make that was music + anime + sync + action + effects/transitions. Oh lordy.

I like seeing my old dbz vids to backstreet boys and nsync songs and actually syncing correctly.
