Is advertiseing necessary???

Postby Knowname » Wed Jul 27, 2005 11:43 am

I was parusing the star scale and it seems the 236 opinions that I have for my video from back with the carrot is like an all time high surpassed by only Whisper of the Beast! -wow- and I never advertise this sucker as well!! Also close to 2000 hits *blows fingernails*.

Anyway what the heck use is all this banner making, it's nonsense!

BTW anybody know why I'm not listed? I mean this things old... did I miss an option somewhere or something???

That one has 236 stars, not opinions.

236 stars would be a record ;p I WIN!! You can only have 1-5 stars.

17% of the videos on the site have more than 236 stars.

You can only have a rating from 1-5. The number that lies within that range is your star score, the average value itself. 236 is the number of times it has been star rated by users.

What are you talking about...

And what do you mean by 'advertising'?

There's a difference. One way is to announce, the other is to pimp. The difference is between passive and active. I rely on passive advertising, you seem to be doing the active type now (and rather shamelessly I might add).

Both work, provided cheap attention is what you want. I don't, however, believe that aggressive pimping gets you good-quality attention. Nor are stars and high marks an indication of high-quality attention.
So better to seek not quantity but quality. For me, passive advertisement works well enough for that purpose.

I just want to know why I (along with many others apparently) am not in that star scale. none of my other 'quality' videos are there either...

If you keep going through the pages of the star scale listings, eventually you will find your video.

236 star ratings isn't a lot, relatively speaking, so the Bayesian average system brings your adjusted star score closer to the global average; thus, unless it's got a really high raw average, it won't show up close to the top of the list.

NO! I swear, this thing is NOT there. A 2.99 in particular should show up on the last page since that one has like 3.0-2.85 or some such, but a search for my name comes up empty. I then start going backwards searching for both my name and my studio name... still nothing! Too few opinions? In fact if I just change that too at least 160-unlimited and there's only a HANDFULL of videos so I can easily MANUALLY search and even double check! Still nothing. So I thought maybe it's too old! BUT not even that! the oldest one is older than 2002...

And though I don't understand your average stuff (I suck at science, a math wiz and a literary genious but when it comes to figureing anything out my face might as well get small, chubby and fat, I UNBELEIVABLY SUCK at it) I'll concede if you confirm that it shouldn't be there... I just don't want to be left out when I DO make something cool ;p.

First, set it to sort by Stars. Click the little link that says "Stars". Then find the point at which the star score you see in Edit My Videos shows up. Look around in there.

You call 100 pages of vid's a handfull? You probably have looked at the week list. Did you get the 236 stars in one week? I believe not. You should check the All Time Star Scale.

Your video is actually on the star scale... I found it in a couple minutes. It's number 5971 on this page:

http://www.animemusicvideos.org/lists/s ... o=bayscore

And you do realize that your scores aren't really something to brag about, right? You were comparing your scores to Whisper of the Beast's.... that video has 338 opinions and 10,291 stars, and your video has 3 opinions with 236 stars (which are not the same thing as opinions). That's a pretty wide gap.

I think this whole thread is just a badly-concealed attempt at being an attention whore. :?
