First off, if this unlikely legislation where allowed to pass, there would be such a public outcry and boycott that no company in thier right mind would continue production of these so called "fritz-chips" because they would be dead wieght in a warehouse. I know I would not personally buy any thing like that as long as any alternative remained. and it's true, by killing piracy these same big comapnies are killing thier biggest form of Free advertising. now granted, I no longer buy much music because the RIAA pisses me off, but the demand in the a-m-v.org community for quality AMV's has lead me to purchase my entire collection of anime DVD's... If not for AMV's, I would still be watching bad quality fansubs. I happen to be a cheapskate.
one last thing to reinternate, say that the worse happens. this TCPA thing gets passed, and every major manafactuer succeeds in replacing non-copy protected stuff. you know what? human ingenuity of the individual will ALWAYS be one step ahead of the ingenuity of a large group of people. there will ALWAYS be at least one way to get around any form of protection. this is the reason why we havn't built the perfect vault yet. I mean, look at the DMCA that M$ tried to put on it's media streams. some guy had the alogarithm cracked in less then two weeks. no matter what form of security there will be, there will always be a way to break it...
Look at me! Look at me! I posted in WOT so I must be evil!!! [/sarcasm]
