A GOOD Fruits Basket Comedy AMV

Postby OtakuMan22 » Sun Jul 10, 2005 2:29 am

Alright, I've been doing some searching, and as of right now I can not find ONE... REALLY GOOD... AMV that revolves around Fruits Baskets.

I admit I've never seen or read Fruits Baskets, but I've pretty much got the jist of the show and manga, and I'm not afraid of spoilers.

But after searching through lists and lists and lists of Fruits Baskets AMVs, I can not find ONE good comedy video that meets the standards of other good comedy videos (as can be seen in the recommended Comedy videos thread one section over).

Oh yeah, I'm sure there are good dramatic ones out there, all sappy and emotional over the cuteness and angst factors.

BLARF

What I want is some comedy, and right now the best one I've seen so far is the Fruits Basket vid to Eddie Murphy and Antonio Banderas covering Living La Vida Loca (See Shrek 2).

That CAN'T be good!

Can anybody please, PLEASE, point me to a good Fruits Basket comedy AMV! I'm DYING here!

And if there aren't any good ones, then WHY are there so many bad ones!? Can someone answer me that!?

~Otaku-Man

P.S. And while we're at it, what's up with no one using Katamari On The Rocks for an AMV song? So far there's one AMV that uses it and it BLOWS! BIG TIME!

lol well quality is very -uh- subjective... I fail to see the humor as I've not seen it and have no connection.

Anyway, Otakuman, what your looking for may not exist. Take DBZ videos for instance...

Look up Turboneko's DDR Project 4 video.

It's funny if you understand the relationships between the characters in Fruits Basket.

...well, I guess suggestions can't hurt. Just don't complain that it's not funny until you've seen the show and read the manga.

Why, you ask? The reason is simple. Nobody has had the urge to use Katamari Damacy music yet! That's why!

Go here, young Padawan, and find what you seek. She's looking for suggestions and maybe you can help. I tried already.

As for Fruits Basket...the concept of comedy is subjective to the viewer. That said, I'm going to give you links to some of the most amusing/good ones that I've seen. (Oh, and just so you know, after I watch an anime, I download and watch every single Local video on the site. Thus, this list is pretty complete and up to date.)

ck25 - Less Than Jake - "I Think I Love You" - Disturbing Behavior
JaddziaDax - Bowling for Soup - "1985" - White Snake
JaddziaDax - Barenaked Ladies - $1,000,000 - Pocket Change

That's really all for comedy. Well, the last one isn't comedy as much, but it is amusing and should bring a smile to your face.

Hope that helps some.

Hmm...guess that wasn't much of a list. I thought I had more than that...

"Disturbing Behavior" and "A Song for Everyone" are funny as hell if you have any trace of a clue what you're talking about. Heck, I thought the former was funny even before I saw the series, and now that I have seen it, it's better.

Dude, are you listening to yourself? For one thing, FB isn't a BWAHAHAOMGROFLMAO OMG MY HEAD JUST ESPLODED series. It's sweet with some cute-funny moments. So, naturally, that's the sort of humor that people tap into when making videos. You'd know this if you had any fucking clue what you were talking about, instead of complaining that the actual series doesn't live up to what you think it is.

This is a golden topic. Golden. Whew. On the upside, we got some good recommendations.

Dude, sit down, take a chill pill. Alright it's not funny, I know.

Oh it's STB. I liked you better 2 years ago. Chill out seriously. I didn't call them bad, perhaps they are entertaining like djultima said. I just wouldn't call them, what has been suggested, comedy and the guy asked for comedy. I can have an opinion too sane ppl let others have their opinion, I just wanted to put my 2 cents in and I got out.

Like you said there not haha funny, but they are enjoyable... if you laugh at that more power to you. Glad this was brought up though, if Otaku is expecting comedy like I was, he doesn't feel like he's walking into a trap. Thx for clearing that up, from my perspective and maybe even from his... now I suggest you go sit down and take it easy for awhile

knowname, why on God's green earth do you think I was talking to you?

And why do you assume I'm worked up? It's a message board. Just because I'm capable of forming complete sentences doesn't mean I'm having a heart attack. I just, you know, like, can read, and stuff. So chill.

Actually, I'm kind of glad that Knowname took my back on this one. I know that it's the forums and people share opinions and all that, but...

So, naturally, that's the sort of humor that people tap into when making videos. You'd know this if you had any fucking clue what you were talking about, instead of complaining that the actual series doesn't live up to what you think it is.

...I feel a bit insulted by that kind of statement. "I don't know what I'm fucking talking about?" Those are harsh words my friend, harsh words!

Anyway, the fact of the matter is that one should NOT require previous knowledge of an anime or manga when watching a music video. Sure it helps, but it shouldn't be MANDATORY! That's like playing the old "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" video game. All text-based, and the only way you could really get through was to have a working knowledge of and have all of the Hitchhiker's Guide books.

The same applies to a Fruits Basket AMVs. Watching the series and knowing some about the characters can help for some jokes more than others, but a sign of a really good AMV is where one doesn't HAVE to understand the characters or what's going on. This goes for comedy, action, drama, the works!

Of the AMVs I've seen of Fruits Basket, all I've seen are videos that require WAY too much on prior knowledge to the anime or manga, and also are just plain bad. One example was the Itchy and Scratchy vid that someone made which just did NOT live up to expectations.

And as for the story, I know this much:

1) We have family cursed to transform into animals when hugged by someone of the opposite sex. The father turns into a dog, the mom a boar, and the two kids, Kyo and Yuki I believe, turn into a cat and mouse respectively.

2) The 13 cursed people all hail from the Chinese Zodiac, except for the cat, which is why Kyo is pissed because the Cat got left out of the Zodiac. Reminds me of Chris Rock in Dogma! He was the 13th Apostle left out of Jesus' crew, so given something like that, I can see how Kyo would be POed about there being 12 and not 13 Zodiac animals.

3) Kyo and Yuki fight... A LOT!

4) We got this nice lovely lady gal who's with the family and happens to be really freaked out at first by the transformations, but learns to live with it. Kyo and Yuki both like her and fight over her, and it just becomes constant... well... love triangle stuff.

Now I gained all this WITHOUT reading the manga or watching the show. I read up on ANN, check out NewType, and keep my ears peeled to all the anime news I can.

In fact, turns out I DO have a fucking clue, so please, don't be too hasty to judge someone just because they post more in "General Anime" than they do "General AMV", and therefore assume I'm some upstart noob. I am not, and never was, at least here at this board. Now 10 years ago, THEN I was a noob! Oh man, was I a noob! :)

:shakes head: Anyway, I think I made my point. I got to check some of these vids out. (Stinkin' work and not being able to listen to vids and :Grumble grumble: )

I think the level of knowledge of the show required for video understanding is up to the creator. Some people like to make sure their vids are cohearent for all viewers, regardless of their experience with the source, but that's truly a rather limiting way to make some AMVs. When you do that to yourself you cut out things like un-obvious lyric synching and often would get chastised for having "random clips." I think it's unfair to broadly catagorize so many vids as bad just because their is most likely a lack of understanding.

Personally I really don't like to watch vids for animes that I haven't seen because I prefer the need for source intamacy. I makes things so much more interesting and much less shallow. I don't know about you but when you're watching a bunch of vids for something you've never seen everything is being taken at face value. =/

Most anime fans could tell you the premise of Evangelion, but does that mean they'd get every little nuiance of an AMV if they'd never seen the show? Heck no. Many fans of the show get confused sometimes. I could tell you all about the premise of Cowboy Bebop without ever having seen an episode. Knowing how to read summaries, while helpful in deciding whether or not to buy a show, is not a good way to claim expertise on the source. Especially when going agaisnt someone who has a Fruits Basket icon dude.

Seriously though, Fruits Basket is liscenced and for a 26 episode series to be on only 4 DVDs is a steal. Just buy it an make your own over the top hilarious vid that we will all bust a gut rolling on the floor with laughter over.

If Shigure and Kagura are married, then there's more than just that alleged Tohru/Kyou/Yuki triangle goin' on. :?

And really, if think Newtype read that, then you aren't reading it properly.

Makes me wonder why all anime can't be released that way... It's definitely the best deal I ever got on a series. Stupid Chobits and its stupid $220 price tag because we couldn't get the stupid thing in a stupid box set. Stupid! *growl*

I heard that FUNimation thought that series wouldn't be a huge hit among the masses so they decided to pack as many episodes into a few volumes. The individual volumes sold quite poorly, but that changed ever since the manga became very popular and FUNi released the entire boxset at a damn good price.

Okay, okay, so I'll pull out the Newtype and re-read the Fruits Basket section. And yes, I did realize that the icon was Shigure in dog form in the tub with the paper.

But that's still no excuse to swear at me. That's just mean! :x

Anyway, so the entire series is on 4 DVDs... and this box set costs how much now? I just might be tempted here...

What kind of price do you guys usually see in shops?

The retail price for the boxset is $99.98, but I bought it for about $67 in Best Buy.
