Ack! 1 week to fill in a Main events slot!

Postby ANTDrakko » Sat Jul 09, 2005 7:17 pm

Ok, heres the scenario/dilema I'm in:

Conneticon 2005's AMV contest, which the time is already alotted to the main events, fell through. So, I've been given the task to fill in that slot with some AMV-related event.

To be really general: What should I do?

My ideas:

Show videos (from my own stash) 1 by 1 and in between each, ask the audience what they thought or had any questions.

Have a monkey throw feces at the audience and claim that its a new type of AMV that is really popular in Japan

Now, besides having the obvious lack of a monkey, I'm not sure what would be best to do, or if there are other interesting ideas out there.

Gimme a hand, a-m-v.org , I've got a week to compile something interesting!

(btw, please keep the "Your management should have done a better job" comments to a minimum ^_^ )

"Your management should have done a better job"

That said, its not that difficult to fill an hour or two with AMV-type stuff. Heck, throw Animix in there if you're really lazy. Or a DDR Project or two.

I think you could do an amv panel of some type as we were talking about before. Or you could possibly go through your stash of amv, email/pm the creators asking if it is alright to show their amv at the convention. So you could show some of your own as well. Have a comment sheet that people could fill out and then email the response back to the creators. So sorta like an amv showcase. You could say.

Well lets just get one thing straight:

I am lazy.

Hehe, but in all seriousness, thats a great idea. Thanks a bunch.

Anyone else?

If you want slightly more than just showing vids you could always find out what editors are going and asking their help. All you need are a handful of editors willing to show one of their videos then babble about it's creation for five or ten minutes. It'd give the audience some 'insight' into the creation process and what goes into it, it'd give the editors an ego boost, and it wouldn't be as ho-hum as just playing a bunch of AMVs.

Alternately, play MJs tub-girl video first thing. Before that video ends the entire audience will have left which leaves you free to go play around in the dealer room for the rest of the time.

I don't know how people talk about AMVs for two hours..AMVs are good..but it's not something I'd talk about for hours and be interested. =|

Play AMVs instead of talking about them =|

It should be noted that when someone posted the Connecticon rules to the Contest forum, I brought up several concerns that were never addressed.

Considering that this is the second year in a row your contest has fallen through, you guys should either pay better attention to the concerns of the editors or just not bother trying to hold it next year.

Like I said earlier, I know that the management did a bad job. Trust me, I'll tell them. Only reason I'm in charge of filling this main events slot is because if I do I get free room for the convention and I get to hand out some distro CDs for my AMVs and me and a friend's webcomic (more on that sometime in the future).

If I can actually manage to find some time in the coming years, I'll prolly end up actually completely handling the AMV contest, which will run much smoother, though.

I've gotta show the 2 entries that we DID recieve, so what I'll do is prolly show those two, show a few other videos and then show Animix.

Thanks for the help everyone, I appreciate it.
