Stupid Question: Windows Movie Maker

Postby stargazer6 » Mon Jul 04, 2005 1:23 am

Okay, call me dense but I just can't figure this out..
I have used windows movie maker for many school projects, gifts, etc.. but I only know how to use it with still pictures. Whenever I try to import a scene from a dvd I have ripped it says that it is incompatable with windows movie maker. I have seen other AMVs in which people have used windows movie maker so there has got to be a way around this right? Please help answer my really dumb question.

Thanks.

To the best of my knowledge it's just Windows Movie Maker 2, which you can also buy effects and transition upgrades for. =) But they're like $15 each (you can order them off the movie maker website).

Check the guides on ripping dvds -
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/

You have to make sure your dvd rips are in a format wmm can read. Huffyuv or uncompressed both should work fine, but xvid, divx, mpeg, wmv, also work (the quality will be crap and wmm will probably lock up a lot, but they work...).

Your best bet is to check the guides to make sure you're ripping your dvds to huffyuv, which is completely compatible with wmm and will give about the best quality you can get with the program.

/if you want to upgrade to version 2.0 and you have windows xp, you should be able to get a free upgrade from the microsft website.

This thread should have gone in 'video software help,' so don't be surprised if they move it. ^.~

You can also edit with the VOBs themselves, via DGIndex, AVISynth, and makeAVIS; part of this process is outlined in http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... ogetb.html ; the rest of it (for WMM) is here: http://www.aquilinestudios.org/wmm2guide.html
