ATTN: AMV Creator with a VIRUS

Postby AbsoluteDestiny » Mon Oct 21, 2002 6:49 pm

I know this is not strictly about AMVs and should probably go in Off Topic but this could affect many amv creators as I know a few creators who have received this.

It's the klez virus http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_99455.htm and will send itself to someone in a persons address book and look like it is from someone else in the address book.

So, for example it could look like I'm sending the email to kusoyaro if both our addresses were stored on the infected computer.

This virus has been sent to myself, wonka, kusoyaro and in the from: field it has had been addressed from dokidoki and some other creators.

So there is an amv creator out there who has been infected by this virus. They can remove it by running the removal program in the link above. Of course, they probably don't know that they have one.

To find out, install a free antivirus program like this one:

Its unlikely that its someone on the amv ML as no strange messages have been sent to that address and I'd expect at least one to have been sent.

That reminds me. I need to update my DAT files and anti virus software.

No viruses here...I use a Mac

FYI: There are 70 some viruses total on the Mac OS. There are 0 (yes, zero) for Mac OS X.

Good post, though, AD. I'd hate to see a virus destroy a lot of valuable master video files.

They always scoffed at me because I didn't use Windows...

Yeah...I've gotten them from tons of people on this forum that I've never IMed or emailed before.

I only use Hotmail (aside from my work address, which I assure you is virus-free), so seeing as this is probably an Outlook virus, I very much doubt that I am the source.
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

I'll run AVG just to make sure, but I haven't received any e-mails from people, so I doubt I have it.
