You know why all the "old school" editor are gone? Becasue they suck. No one can be any good without the absorbanat use of Koopagons and Iantangels. I just doen't work. Why, I remeber about this time last year there was one video..... that's it, the rest were doomed with subtitles and naruto/dzb footage. There's your "old-shool."

Never mind those 199? videos that blew the hell out of them; half of which were 2 VCR jobs. Ask me, I say the day WMM was publicly released was the 1st day twards AMV apocalypse. After that its been one pile of crap after another. Less than a percentage of videos these days is worth the time to download. Fewer of them actually belong on the server.

Just because the effectsy videos make the most noise does not mean there are not still tons of excellent videos that use little more than cuts and fades. I've seen plenty.

It's not my problem if someone can't make a simplistic video that's good enough to get noticed. Plenty of other people are still doing it, so it's certainly not impossible.
Despite the loud complaints, After Effects are not what it takes <s>you know terrorists always make these mistakes</s>.

Who are you to decide what does and doesn't belong on the server? It's not your server.

I certainly will not deny that the widespread distribution of Windows Movie Maker has made it easier than ever to make a bad music video. However, more importantly, it has made it easier than ever to make a music video period, which has encouraged more people than ever before to try their hands at AMVing, which in turn causes more people to stick around, keep at it, and improve. (Hell, some even buy fancier software.)

Once a n00b does by no means imply always a n00b.
(And that's why we have the "Most Improved" VCA.)

I will also not deny that the majority of the music videos on this site are crap; that's how it is with any hobby or fandom. No one's forcing us to watch the ones that are.

Even if the server is being flooded with crappy newbie videos, why do you care? The people who made those are having fun doing it, and they're not hurting anyone <s>and we all enjoyed the weekend for a cha-yeenge</s>; who are you to tell them to stop? (Improve, yes, but not stop.) To me, "because you suck" will never be a good enough reason to tell someone to quit making AMVs.
And there will always be some of them that stick around and start making better videos, which benefits everyone.

And it's not like the hordes of bad AMVs are hurting our public image either; AMV contests remain huge draws at anime cons, and in general, the good AMVs are what people see there. And how many people got into this hobby in the first place after seeing such a contest?
And it's also the good AMVs that receive the widest distribution, either through getting more downloads from the Org, spreading over file-sharing networks, or just people showing them off to their friends.

To conclude, since I'm late to lunch:
1) You may yearn for the days of "old-school" videos, but there are still plenty of excellent videos coming out now (both with effects and without) if you just look for them.
2) Sure there's tons of bad videos these days. So what? Why does it matter?

I think its funny that Koops latest "big" video that won an award at Anime Central....used absolutely no effects.

Cuts and fades, and was an AMV masterpiece. and this is coming from the guy who made shapes famous

Yup, Scintilla and the trippy avatar just pwned this thread.

To add in my two cents...I believe that I am very helpful. Granted, I am a WMM user who can't rip anything other than PS1 games and has attained little more than n00b status, but I still help out. I just do it in different ways. Anyone can be helpful. You just need to know what they're good at first.

If that made any sense. Much like my many sentence fragments.

I was the first member on this site to reach 100+ reviews for one of my videos. Also, my gen x vid is 330 on the database. Thats pretty much old school.
