What effect is this?

Postby Gallup » Fri May 20, 2005 12:53 am

I am not sure if this is where to ask this question but here I go. What program do people use to get the effect where you have one small part of a scene show for a brief second and then in the next have a different part of the scene show while everything else remains black? I hope that I made myself clear enough. Please tell me if I didn't and I will try to find an example to show you.

Hmmm, I think I kind of understand what you are saying. but I'm sure someone else will reply to your topic and tell you what effect that is and maybe show you how to do that effect, unless you already know how to do that effect.

I think you are refering to the masl effect.
That "effect" can be found in after effects. I think that is the effect you are referring to.

You can do that in Adobe Premiere Pro by splitting up the clip into a few parts and applying a differently placed Garbage Matte to each one.

You can do the same thing in older versions of Premiere by using the Clip effect, but then trying to get anything else to show underneath that layer of video will take some work.

In Premiere 6.5, however, you can go to Transparency Settings and move around the 4 points on the monitor to achieve an effect similar to the garbage matte in Premiere Pro.

Don't ask me any more details, though, since I don't use the program anymore.

Thanks for th suggestions you guys but I just figured out how to do it on my Ulead program. I might play around with this on my adobe though. I am trying out the Adobe after effects probrams and I plan on making a couple more of my vids using Adobe in the future. :D

Well I have just run into another problem. I figured out how to create my clip, but now I don't know how to save it for future reference. I can make it into it a video file, but even if I compress it the size is still really big. Anyone have any ideas on how to do this with Ulead GIF Animator 5. These are the saving options that I have.
GIF File
UGA File
UFO FIle
PSD file

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Wha? Correct me here if I'm wrong, but are you trying to use a GIF animator to make an AMV? O_O

Save it as a video file at least, then read the guides (especially this section) on how to compress them properly.

But um... GIF animator?

To answer your question I am not using GIF animator to make my video. What I am doing is building those segments that use effects available not in the Ulead 8.0 or 9.0 program and then opening in my video program so that i can insert them into the timeline. Also, I just found out how to compress them to a nice size. For some odd reason the program would not bring up all the different codec's that I have.

Ahh, alright. You confused me there for a second. Carry on then. :)
