If that isnt Jesus, I dont know what is :)

As for the subect, I was a little worried about the state of things as far as AMV creators behavior, that is untill AWA (yes I know you guys are sick of hearing about that damn con, but oh well ;) ). I managed to meet all of the peoeple that inspired me to pick up editing, and all the people that inspire me still today, and to my supprise, they were ALL some of the nicest people I have ever met. I was truely impressed. Some I got to talk with just breifly, some for a while, some became honest to god friends, but everyone was extremly curtious and supportive, from big name to no name.
As Jesus....err...Fluxy said, people are easily missinturpreted (sp?) online. Sarcasm is somtimes lost, smilies are not added when they are intended, and a general bad vibe is somtimes picked up where it realy shouldnt be.
This will always happen when dealing with text on a screen, but I have renewed faith that AMV people, for the most part, realy arnt cold arrogent people, they just play one on TV ;)

okay..my 2 cents...

1. Elitist: I've yet to have really met anyone on the org that comes across as this. To be sure..I've heard stories, but from personal expericance, no. And what Fluxmeister said about being around friends at cons. I have to agree with. Now if you end up making friends with Random creator #77887 while there, great! But for the most part, people tend to stick in groups of people that they know and are comforatble with. That way, if you glomp someone (in my case at least :) ) you have no fear of having a restraining order issued agianst you!

2: As far as how a person acts online and IRL..well, I have to agree with AD. It's easy for someone to be all loud and showy online, but many times when you meet that person face to face, your actually surprised at how low key they really are ( and as to all things, there are exceptions to this rule! LOL)

3: As an AMV creator I try to help out people as much as possible. Even though I'm by no means a Premire master, I do try to watch betas of vids, offer feedback on those, and if a software question pops up that I do know the answer to, I try to help in that way, as well as give reveiws, even if they're not as long winded as MJ's are...
I think what really gets to me on the reviews, and it goes along with what Wired Knight said about video taste..is that my first has over 700 hits that I know of...and only 5 reveiws. Now, I'll be the first to tell you that the vid is not great..as it was a first attempt...but only 5 reveiws? Out of 700? Surely more than just 5 people had opinions on it...Even if it wasn't something you personaly liked. Granted. I owe my own fair share of reveiws, but as a general rule I try to get them done within a week of seeing the vid...even if the vid wasn't something I particully cared for.

4: Cons and AMV contest....I've yet to have been to a con, or had a vid in one either....but hopefully that will be different come 2003....in the meantime..I can only say that even if my vid was only shown at a con, I'd be tickeled to death! And floored if one ever won anything. I think I'd be to happy/shocked to worry about lording it over anyone.

Overall, I think the AMV creators of the ORG are all around generally good people. Sure we have our tiffs and differences, but that's to be expected in any large group of people.
And that's just MHO....

I wonder what non-AMV artists are like.

Wow

Postby anneke » Thu Oct 10, 2002 2:42 pm

I find a 6 page thread that I didn't see yesterday...wow...oh wait I didn't check yesterday...my mistake.

Things I've observed. West Coast creators are VERY different from the East Coast creators in general and yet on the whole. I wish I was an East coast creator.

The big difference I've noticed between East & West is that on the East coast the creators see each other more, where on the West we have basically 2 real conventions (Fanime and AX) and they are still 6 hrs travel time away from each other. So the creators don't see each other much, much less hang out. To many walls around us.

Have I seen Elitest AMV creators. Oh hell yeah I have. There are a few that have big sticks up their butts but they are the same ones who will say they don't. However luckily they are few in number.

As for Newbies... I get sick of their questions, so I simply don't respond to them. Haven't people learned if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. Take that attitude towards Newbies, they burst into flame to easily. Newbies bring new life, new blood, new ideas into the community and should be respected.

As for special seating at a contest. It's a priveledge not a right. I think it's a nice gesture, but I don't think AMV creators are owed such. Your the same as everyone else. Yes you have a vested interest in the outcome of the contest, but then should you really be there at all trying to make your video win?

When there is a ballot contest, I don't vote. I should vote for myself and be proud of my hard work, but I also know the other people put alot of work into their videos as well. Is it fair for me to say my video is better. Or to say another video is better then another. Respect the hard work each creator puts into their projects.

As for ermac. I'm one of the people who dislike him. This is due to actions he has done in the past. (Long story....)

Do I think my videos are good... yes, I personally like them. Are they better then anyone else's videos, no.

Feedback... I want/love feedback. I want/need feedback. I want to improve and getting a critice on my videos helps me to improve further videos. To spot flaws in what I've done, so I can improve.

Ah...there was lots that I agreed with. One thing I didn't aggree with was that we think we are better then the general audience. When we arn't. Actually I believe we are not better then the general audience, we are simply different in that we more educated in what making an AMV intitles on the whole. So we look at them differently. (I'll leave it at that, I could go into a big thing about this but I'm not going to...)

AMVs may be a hobby but they are also an artform, one that I'm personally very passionate about.

Things to remember as an AMV Creator (Or atleast I TRY to stick to):

Be Creative
Be Respectful of others works
Winning a contest doesn't mean anything

As an AMV Coordinator I try to:

Be Respectful of the Artwork that was submitted.

I think that's my lot. I most likely won't be checking this message again, so don't bother responding.

CaTaClYsM: Will you please stop bringing that up. It was an accident, and happened over two months ago. Move on. I don't think that's what anneke was talking about anyway.

Well, at least now we can forget about all the unpleasantness of the past thread and dwell on how much of a fucking idiot CaTaClYsM is. This is like the 5th time I've heard you posting about ErMaC and penises in two days. You have some sort of issues with ErMaC and penises, see a shrink and shut the hell up.
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

This thread was an intellectual conversation about what's up with creators and stuff... And maybe how we can do something to make it better...

This thread has officially gone off topic... Thanks CaT!!!

To go back on topic...

Me, I know I'm not that great at this video editting thing. I'm still fairly new (Jan 2002 is when my first vid debuted) and I've only entered one con, Otakon 2002. I haven't attended any yet, either. I WAS going to shoot for Otakon 2003, but I found out last weekend that I can't. Damn it all...

Someday, I want to go to a con and meet all of you people, especially after hearing all of the great stories about AWA and how much fun it was. I want to meet you people, see how you really are, enjoy the experience of an AMV contest. I think it'd be a lot of fun.

As far as the Elitist thing goes, I don't really see too much of that, around the forums at any rate. Hell, some of you people whose videos give me inferiority complex attacks take any opportunity to mention that those same videos suck!! And others just come across to me as really low-key and mellow, and seem like they'd be great to hang around and BS with.

Hopefully, one day I will be given the opportunity to test that theory.

That's my two cents, anyway.

There are no elite. But, yeah, I've seen some of that elitist attitude in a few people. Though mostly it seems like show, not like they honestly think they are higher or better than anyone. I've heard several different things about many of the people here, therefore I've made the decision not to believe any of it until I meet them. Honestly, I've only met two people that seem to have an elitist attitude. I just ignore them, but I know that's not always possible. Especially if they're right in front of you!

I don't make AMVs yet, I just watch and criticize and admire and review. I let someone know when they've made a good video, but I don't exaggerate or understate how good it was. Or bad. To me, someone acting high and mighty because they make AMVs and I don't is like someone performing in Broadway and hating me because I don't sing. But the fact is that everyone has different talents, skills, and preferences.

If I ever make it to a con, I'll want to meet as many people as I can regardless of them clustering together.

As for cons... im definitely going to otakon next year no question if it means I'll get to meet all you people. That would be very very cool.
