Running out of steam(or how 4min can seem like an eternity)

Postby gurukast » Wed Oct 02, 2002 9:58 pm

Currently do a video to The Clay People - Awake - which is like 3min 29 seconds... it seems so long now.. i've been editing for days and i'm not on about 2 minutes...this matrix type slow time is ridiculous. Next video after that is gonna be 3:39

What time is good length time for an anime? i.e how long is two long?

Only days? Sheesh, I've been working on a video for over a month now and have only two and a half minutes done.

As far as length goes: If you can hold an audience's attention for five minutes, go ahead. If you think you're coming up short, edit the song to cut some music out. (Of course, be sure that where you cut the song sounds natural.)

I've been working on this AMV for about a month and a half and am working on hour 30 thus far with another ten to twenty looknig at me at least. I'm surprised you're losing steam allready. Mine's only seven seconds longer. Anyway, if you find yourself losing interest I would actually suggest finding a place to cut teh song off and caling it quits, if you start to lose too much steam you will cut corners and the AMV will get worse. This happened with my last AMV (also compelte lack of decent source footage) so you just have to know when to stop.

Welcome to AMV editing where 10 hours = 30 sec. of edited video

If you loose steam though ... you might loose your audiences attention. Maybe taking a break, or rewatching the show you're using will reenergize you or give you ideas to make it more interesting.

I actually had smething similar to this happen to me. I started working on a video, but I gradually began to lose all interest in it. The more I did on it, the more I just did not like where it was going or how it was turning out. It got to a point where I physically could not bring myself to do any more work on what just felt like a piece of crap to me.

If you don't feel good about the video, it won't turn out good. That's my thoughts on it, anyway.

A tip that may help. If your losing steam, do a test render. Run it through Premiere at a low resolution, so it only takes 10-20 min to render. Then watch the video and realize what your working towards. I find this helps to keep me motivated.

I was experimenting tonight, doing some tech tests to see how I could get a certain effect done :\ Took about four hours for a 10second test that looked kinda crappy ;p

The problem isn't my computer is slow, it's just getting all the crap together. Searching for source, I believe is the stuff part, finding that perfect scene. Oooh is there a better clip, is that character at a better angle?

Most of my other AMVs have fallen short on quality. ;p I'd go with what looked good and there would be some obvious technical/artistic glitches in them ;p I am moving on towards a more perfectionist view of doing things. I really don't want to make a AMV unless it really is something special ;p

Well, my Wicked City video took me over 7 months to finish, and that was 5 min 10 sec. My Eva/Nightwish video, which was 6:57 only took me around 2 and a half months. Depending on the complexity of the video and how well the clips you set work before you go and change them. however, one day for 2 and a half minuites? going a bit fast there.
